Whiteinch Demolition Limited successfully implements
fitness for work medicals
WHITEINCH DEMOLITION HAS POSITIVELY IMPLEMENTED A COMPREHENSIVE OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH PROGRAMME BY WORKING THROUGH THE KEY STAGES OF IMPLEMENTATION WITH FULL COMMITMENT FROM THEIR WORKFORCE.
I
n this issue we review how Whiteinch Demolition has worked through the
implementation process, how the programme was received by both the workforce and management and the next phase.
Whiteinch Demolition, based in Scotland,
recognised the need to make changes to their business following the introduction of medical surveillance - fitness for work medicals. In an industry which relies on highly skilled and experienced workers, their health, safety and wellbeing is of paramount importance.
Initial Discussions Clarity Healthcare met with both George
Barclay CEO & Colin Gilmour, Health and Safety Manager at Whiteinch Demolition and undertook a short needs assessment. Te recommendation following the assessment was to introduce a managed Occupational Health service through a staged process. Reassured of the simplicity of introducing such a service, Whiteinch Demolition decided to implement
the programme for all employees. Positioning this initiative to the workforce required serious consideration.
Implementation Programme Clarity Healthcare developed a programme
for fitness for work medicals and work place wellbeing assessments. Te initial medicals were undertaken by a trained technician alongside an Occupational Health Physician. Following this Clarity Healthcare placed an Occupational Health Nurse on-site over a period of two weeks to undertake the workplace wellbeing assessments and deal with any management referrals.
Communication In conjunction with the programme an
employee pamphlet was designed to provide employees with information regarding the occupational health service, the types of medicals undertaken, result of the assessments, where the information would be stored and frequently asked questions.
“Both the employees and the management
team were fully committed to the programme. Employees were very positive towards the initiative recognising the benefit to them”
Te Next Step Whiteinch Demolition introduced a follow
up process for employees through one to one consultations to support them with recommendations such as GP referrals and changes to work station areas. “Having done the ground work we want to continue to make a difference.”
“Everything following the initial meeting I
had with Jas has been seamless. Te reaction of our employees and management team was very positive. Tey can personally see and feel the benefits. Our medicals renewals have now been diarised by Clarity so I don’t even have to think about when they need to be completed. Te process was and is managed by Clarity Healthcare.”
