Rise and Shine with Early Birds’ Events
I
t’s July, and time to enjoy balmy weather and light in the early morning. It’s a
perfect time for a romp in the park, and a great time for early exercisers to challenge their minds as well as their muscles with the Early Birds Washington Park monuments challenge. The Early Birds Committee is offering all
early risers an opportunity to spend part of a morning workout in beautiful Washington Park Thursday, July 15. Participants learn about the park’s monuments and compete to win a gift certificate to Joe’s. Team competi- tion is encouraged, so the gift certificate is large enough for a team of five or six members to share Joe’s morning treats. There is a lot of interesting history in this
popular nearby park. Competitors need to exercise their powers of observation to win, but everyone is sure to have fun. Although the group gathers in the park July 15, there are maps, information and the challenge quiz available at the MAC Front Desk all week from Monday, July 12 until 7 a.m. on Friday, July 16. The winning entry is drawn from

among all the entries with correct answers. Good luck, Early Birds!
Save the date All early risers are invited to the Early
Birds’ Bocce and Smoothies Party Friday, Aug. 13 from 5:45-6:45 a.m. at the bocce courts in the North Park Blocks. The Early Birds know how to teach the centuries-old Italian game of bocce ball, which is a cross between bowling and croquet. They also concoct delicious smoothies with
a blend of bananas, raspberries, yogurt and apple juice, or Chardonnay wine for those who prefer an elegant smoothie. The bocce courts are between NW Hoyt
and NW Glisan Streets and NW 8th and NW Park Avenues. No reservations are necessary. For more information on the Early Birds, call 503-223-6251, ext. 543 or go to
