Noelle Foden-Vencil is also an eighth grade student at Riverdale Grade School. Besides swimming she plays tenor sax in her community jazz band and in the Portland Youth Jazz Orchestra, does Norwegian folk dancing and has as incredible ‘gift of gab,’ which comes from her father who is a talk show host on NPR. Two younger sisters help to keep Foden-Vencil busy too. This A student enjoys swimming butterfly, IM and freestyle. A state-qualified swimmer, she is trying to make her first individual final in state competition this summer in July.
Senior
There were many special happenings during late April/early May for the senior squad. The squad competed at two meets: the MAC Invitational and May Flowers. The squad as a whole is ahead of last year’s performance, with many personal bests already this early in season. Two swimmers stood out in their performances since the beginning of the long-course season: Carson Brindle and Max Bley-Male.
Brindle swam at May Flowers 50 free at 24.28. He sat a new 15-18 club record in 50 free, and earned a ticket to Irvine, Calif., to compete at U.S. junior national cham- pionships. He continues to develop all four strokes and plans to expand his competi- tive repertoire to compete successfully in butterfly and individual medley.
There is top-notch swim talent in the senior and pre-senior levels as well. From left are Carson Brindle, Noelle Foden-Vencil, Max Bley-Male and John Carey.
Bley-Male improved his own club record
in 100 fly, and swam second fastest 100 free ever by a MAC 13-14 year old swimmer, and fourth fastest 400 IM, edging Brady Childs to the fifth spot. Bley-Male is one of the most versatile swimmers on the team; his range of events is broad, from sprint to middle distance, and he competes success- fully in all four strokes. Bley-Male plans to strengthen his breaststroke, thus making his
200 and 400 individual medley events be at the top of his game.
Both of these senior athletes consistently demonstrate outstanding commitment, work ethic and great attitude in and out of the pool. They are an inspira- tion to their teammates.

has been a significant part of MAC’s team for the past two years, inspiring a younger generation of MAC swimmers with her great attitude, remarkable work ethic and courageous performances. Lightcap is sure to be missed when she takes her MAC cap off in August for the last time.
This fall, Burke becomes a Colorado State University ram.
Burke’s tremendous resilience, undying enthusiasm and hard work has been the source of endless inspiration for her teammates. This high school state swimming champion has big plans for her college swimming career.
The character these four athletes have brought and further developed at MAC is special. Two of the four were given opportu- nities to join the club on athletic scholarships and they have been tremendous assets to the program. Whether dominating their high school leagues or at the state level, these young people are ones MAC can celebrate. MAC’s coaches look for each one of these indi- viduals to succeed in athletics, careers and life. For more information on MAC swimming, call the Aquatics Office at 503-223-8370 or go to
