Scholarship winner; he now is attending Notre Dame. He sent a letter to MAF recently: “It is thanks to the generosity of the MAF that I am able to experience this wonderful university,” Carr says. “I am putting myself through school and without your assistance, all of this would not have been possible.”

Jesus Barragan was the 2008 Joe Loprinzi scholarship winner. The MAF board was so impressed by this young man that it awarded additional scholar- ship money for his sophomore year at University of Portland. His letter of April 8, 2010, to the MAF board states, “The Joe Loprinzi Scholarship has helped me so much these fi rst two years. I appreciate everything the MAF has done for me and will be eternally grateful.”

Carr and Barragan are among the hundreds of individuals who have bene- fi ted from MAC members’ generosity.

Revenue sources

MAC’s annual fund campaign remains the foundation’s largest revenue source. Members’ July billing statement includes a request for a $15 donation. This is a charitable deduction and MAF sincerely appreciates this support in allowing MAF to fulfi ll its mission to help support amateur athletics in the metro area. Last year MAF provided $75,000 in scholarship and grants. Most of these grants are not huge but each one is vital to help local athletic teams participate in sports competitions or individuals to attend college.

Another fundraising event for MAF is the annual Northwest Shootout. This year was the 17th annual staging of the basket- ball all-star games between Oregon and Washington high school seniors. MAF’s last revenue source is in the form of memorial donations made by MAC members.

Next year is the 20th anniversary of MAF providing fi nancial aid to amateur athletes. Thanks go to the members of Multnomah Athletic Club who have provided most of the donations to support MAF’s funding of scholarships and grants to deserving athletes and teams.
