Parking Safely and Smartly at MAC
M
embers are often in a hurry to get into the club for a class or a meeting, and disregard common courtesy and respect for other drivers. Following are some tips to help everyone park smartly and safely at MAC.
• Center the vehicle within the inside parking space lines. The inside lines are a tool to help align the vehicle correctly within the space. Extending on or past the outside lines may result in a parking viola- tion being issued, not to mention the loss of parking area in the adjacent space and the potential for door dings.
• Never force a car into a parking space. A large SUV or pick-up truck does not fi t in a compact space.
• Pull the vehicle all the way into the space. This makes it easier for other drivers to see past the car when backing out.
• While waiting for a parking space to open up, do not block other MAC parkers who are seeking a space.
• Watch for drivers backing out of blind
spots. Small cars parked between larger vehicles like vans or SUVs often have to back out blindly. Be alert and give them space.
• Keep children under control while walking through the Parking Structure. This helps protect them from inattentive drivers.
• Park only in designated spaces. Once parked, keep valuables out of sight in the vehicle.
• Observe the club’s parking rules: posted 5 MPH speed limit, stop signs, handicap spaces, pedestrian crosswalks, and directional arrows.
Following these parking etiquette tips can go a long way in making the MAC Parking Structure a pleasant and safe expe- rience for everyone. WM
