My name is Freddie, but people call me “Toss” as my favorite pastime is tossing around a ball! I am a 1 year-old male Lab and Border
Collie cross with a black and white coat. I am a happy go lucky, energetic guy who is
always ready to go for a walk or play in the park. I love people and happily greet everyone. If you want an enthusiastic

brown tabby. I like toys and climbing things like cat trees, but I am also affectionate and love to be petted and picked up. I recently visited a local nursing facility with the
shelter’s pet therapy volunteers and loved all of the attention I received there! The adoption counselors here say I am a real sweetheart and would be happy in a household with young children. I hope to go home with my new family soon. Like all of my friends here at the Humane Society, I am spayed/neutered, microchiped, and up to date on all of my vaccines.

their dream was to become a firefighter like their fathers, grandfathers, and uncles who came before them. Corey was brought up in a family whose
firefighting history dates back three generations. “I had a great uncle who was a Captain in Norfolk, VA, a great uncle who was a fire fighter in Syracuse, NY, another great uncle who lived in Greenland, NH, as well as a cousin firefighter who worked and lived in Amherst, NH. The atmosphere around my home has always been to help others, and my dad led by that example.
have been helping out around the fire station since I could walk.
It just seems natural to me.
taking classes at 16 years old, and my goal was to be a firefighter by the time I turned 18.
I was born into it, and I I started I want
to give back to the community which has been so great to my family,” he said. Matt’s family also has a family with a rich
and long history of family members working as firefighters. His grandfather has retired from the Nashua Fire Department, where he served as Deputy Chief. His grandfather also served as a Fire Commissioner in Nashua. In addition, Matt follows two uncles into the Fire
Department. One uncle presently works for both the Nashua Fire Department and Nashua Police Department, as well as works as a Nashua Fire Commissioner. His second uncle was killed in the line of duty in 1991, when the building collapsed during a structure fire. “Nothing is better than being in a position to help
out someone in need,” commented Matt. “When the bell rings and we show up, we can see the signs of relief in the faces to whom we help. This is the best job in the world.” Each firefighter is currently studying and working
to receive their EMT 2 certification as they perform their duties as Call Firefighters for Hudson. Caption Morin stated that he is “very proud” of
Corey. “I am thrilled the he chooses to become a firefighter and that he chose to follow in my footsteps. What dad would not want to work side by side with their son? I am thrilled,” he said. Jeff Emanuelson commented, “Matt has worked
very hard to become a firefighter. He was a Hudson Explorer during his youth, and he continued his firefighting education in college.
I am very proud
of what my son has accomplished, and he will be a great asset to the Hudson Fire Department.”
Federal Rule Creates New Legal Obligations
submitted by the New Hampshire Housing Finance Authority The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Renovation, Repair
and Painting (RRP) Rule, which includes heavy fines for rule violations, is now in effect. Property owners and managers, contractors, landlords, operators
of child-occupied facilities, and other interested individuals are invited to attend one of two special meetings taking place on July 15 at New Hampshire Housing Finance Authority, 32 Constitution Drive in Bedford. This meeting will provide vital information about new legal responsibilities set forth under the RRP rule. The RRP rule affects anyone performing work for compensation making repairs, remodeling, or carrying out maintenance jobs, including window replacement, weatherization, demolition, and any other work that disturbs painted surfaces in pre-1978 homes and child-occupied facilities, such as schools and day-care centers. Fines for violating the new rule can be up to $37,500 per incident. The rule, based on federal legislation, was designed to help prevent childhood lead poisoning, which has damaging consequences for children younger than six years of age. Space is limited. Free Microsoft Training Offer Extended to General Public
submitted by Steve Boucher With the demand for skilled information technology workers continuing to rise, Microsoft is offering free training to help Granite Staters gain the certification necessary to score well-paying jobs and pursue an upward career track. Through a special initiative, unemployed job seekers have been taking part in free Microsoft training and certification at the 13 NH Works Career Centers throughout the state. On July 1, the vouchers for this training became available on a first-come, first- served basis to anyone 18 years or older. New Hampshire Division of Economic Development Interim Director Roy Duddy said the $1.7 million worth of training vouchers distributed through the Microsoft Elevate America initiative will improve the skills and resumes of job seekers taking advantage of the one-time offer.
“Employers have told us they are looking for employees with good computer skills and that it has been difficult to find potential employees with these critical attributes,” Duddy said. “The free training vouchers available at the NH Works Centers will help develop higher skills in Microsoft Office products, as well as some advanced Information Technology (IT) programs.” Duddy’s office launched the program last month in coordination with New Hampshire Employment Security. The 5,675 vouchers offer training in Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007 suites and several IT courses, and provide free certification examinations.
Applicants fill out a simple form at a NH Works Center and will
receive the free voucher via e-mail or regular mail. Vouchers must be activated by August 19. For more information, visit
www.nhworks.org/elevate.cfm.
