NEW HAMPSHIRE MUSIC FESTIVAL 2010: A SEASON OF TRIUMPH!
The New Hampshire
Music Festival celebrates its 58th season by lead- ing off with a program of cherished classics and young stars. Grammy nominee, pianist Andri- us Zlabys, returns for an encore performance on the New Hampshire Music Festival’s Clas- sics Series on Thursday, July 8th and Friday, July 9th at 8pm in the Han- away Theatre in the Sil- ver Center for the Arts, PSU, Plymouth, Conducted by Sarah Hicks, Principal Con- ductor of Pops and Pre- sentations of the Min- nesota Orchestra, this performance features Beethoven’s Piano Con- certo No. 5 “Emperor,” Copland’s Appalachian Spring, and Ives’ Three Places in New England. Mr. Zlabys, known for
his “romantic tempera- ment,” has been pro- claimed the “authentic heir to the grand masters of the 19th century key- board tradition.” He has appeared throughout the world as a soloist and recitalist. As a chamber musician, he performs regularly with legendary violinist Gidon Kremer with whom he has toured around the world and appears regularly at the Lockenhaus Festival. Ms. Hicks leads off the
Festival’s roster of young guest conductors whose stars are on the rise. Noted in The New York Times as part of “a new wave of female conduc- tors in their late 20’s through early 40’s,” her versatile and vibrant mu- sicianship has secured her place in “the next generation of up-and- coming American con- ductors.” She has na- tional and international acclaim and has guest conducted both in the U.S. and abroad leading such ensembles as the Los Angeles Philharmon- ic and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra.
