Bel R. Martin & Sons Dairy; Tulare, Calif. Bel R. Martin (Belchior Reis Martin), 85, went home to be with the Lord on October 26, 2009 after a tragic farm acci- dent. Born on January 6, 1924 in San Bartolomeu, Terceira, Azores to Maria and Jose Martin, the youngest of four chil- dren. He served in the Azorian military and was very proud to become a U.S. citizen in the early 70’s. He loved his Ca- dillac’s, cigars and enjoyed spending time at their second home in Pismo Beach. His reputation as the “Famous Por- tuguese Cantriga Folk Singer” was well known everywhere. Bel was married in the Azores Islands to Gilda Barcelos on September 9, 1948.

They migrated to Hanford, CA on February 4, 1950 and im- mediately upon their arrival gave birth to their first son. He started in the dairy industry in Hanford and it was truly his passion. Over 60 years ago he started his own dairy, which eventually became the partnership of Bel R. Martin & Sons Dairy with three sons, located on Avenue 200 in Tulare, truly a success story. With money and language barriers, he is proof of what a man may accomplish with hard work while sacrificing the luxuries to provide a good solid life for his family.

Community involvement included St. Aloysius Catholic Church, membership in the Tulare Chamber of Commerce, Tulare County Farm Bureau, S.E.S., 55-year membership in Land O Lakes, Western United Dairyman, D.H.I.A., Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, Moose Lodge-Pismo Beach,
