2009 - 2010 California Sales In-Review 2009 National Convention Sale

Te much anticipat- ed “Pick of the Herd” consignment from Ocean-View Farms of Windsor, Califor- nia commanded a final price of $16,000 for buyers Jonathan and Alicia Lamb of Oakfiled, NY. Te Lamb’s now have the pick of any open heifer on the farm at Ocean-View.


California National Sale No one will ever forget the nearly 110-degree day on Sunday, June 28, 2009 in Dixon, Calif. where the 2009 National Holstein Convention sale took place. Spectators and buyers from across North America saw 94 lots sell for an average of $4,695.


Miss Hazel Advent Holly-ET *RC was struck off at $26,000 and the evening’s high seller. Holly is an Advent-Red daughter of Quality- Ridge Stormi Hazel (EX-95), the 2008 Re- serve Grand Champion at World Dairy Expo and the Royal Winter Fair. Hazel Futures of Hilmar, California was the winning bidder. Holly was consigned by R-John Holsteins of Petaluma, California.


Second High seller was Farnear-TBR Goldwyn Brin-ET (VG 85), consigned by Kade Harris of Richmond, Utah. Brin is a Goldwyn daughter of Palmcrest Blackcap-ET, a daughter of Rgn- crst-RH Durham Bliss-ET (VG-89), followed by 4 Excellent dams. Brin was purchased by the Mandelyn Syndicate of Chilliwack, BC for $25,000.


Cabernet Goldwn Sunlight-ET (VG-86) brought a bid of $20,600 from Jim & Bill Ge- nasci of Modesto, California and went home as the third high seller of the evening. Sun- light is a Goldwyn daughter of Velvet-View-KJ Sunburst-ET (EX-93 GMD DOM). Te next dam is Sher-Est Prelude Sweet-ET (EX 92 GMD DOM), followed by the famous Satur- day cow. California Futures Sale Te California Futures Sale was held the fol- lowing night, June 29, at the Convention Headquarters, the Hyatt Regency in Sacra- mento. On 48 lots, the sale averaged $10,350. Combined, both sales reached a gross total of nearly $1 million. Rick & Paula Bovre of Great Northern and Chris and Jen Hill MD- Hillbrook served as sale managers. Sale hosts were the California Holstein Association, with Gilbert Teixeira and Ryan Matheron serving as the sale co-chairs. Norman Nabholz read pedigrees as Chris Hill handled auctioneering duties, with a super team of ringmen collect- ing bids from the audience. Top seller at the Futures sale went to Lot #1, a First Choice by Mutually Agreeable Sire from


Ms Atlees Gold Abigail (VG-89), with a GTPI of +2085. Abigail is a daughter of Md-Delight Durham Atlee (EX-92 DOM), tracing to Ms Kingstead Chief Adeen (2E-94 DOM). Te choice was consigned by Todd Whittier of West Sutton, Massachusetts and and after a spirited bidding duel, sold for $66,000 to Frank & Diane Borba, Chris & Leo Durrer, Frank & Carol Borba and Wayne & Beth Glaeser, of California, with Dennis Wolff of Pennsylvania contending.


Second high seller of the night commanded a final bid of $40,000 for a first choice Shottle x Ms Candy Apple-Red. Candy Apple-Red is a daughter of the Million Dollar Cow, KHW Regiment Apple-Red (EX-92), the 2006 All- American Jr. Two Year Old. Te choice was consigned by the Candy Apple-Red Syndicate of California and purchased by Shot of Candy Associates, Oakdale, CA.


A choice of Jeeves from Regancrest Breya-ET (VG-88) took home the third hightest price of the night of $32,500 going to Lesperron Hol- steins of Burry Quebec. Te choice was con- signed by Regancrest Farms and Todd & Brad Groves of Iowa. Breya is the #2 PTAT cow of the breed, with 3 sons all over +2122 GTPI and +4.15 Type. Te next dam is Regancrest Barbie (EX-92 GMD DOM).


Te fourth high seller went to a first choice Durham from Windy-Knoll-View Promis (2E-95 GMD DOM). Te lot was consigned by James & Nina Burdette of Pennsylvania, and went to buyers S-Pine-Lawn Farm, Fleetwood, PA at $23,000. Promis has 9 Excellent daughters and 12 sons in AI.
