Great work Elise, and congratulations on your award of Young Breeder of the Future Girl!

Young Breeder of the Future Boy

Brandon Almeida is the recipi- ent of the 2010 Young Breed- er of the Future Boy Award. Brandon is a 12-year-old sixth grader from Hilmar, California.

Brandon Almeida

With 4 animals in his project, Brandon has had the oppor- tunity to be very involved in the show ring. He has exhib- ited class winners at several fairs and shows, and had the chance to compete at the highest level in 2009 at World

Dairy Expo, where his summer yearling, Miss Advent Variation-Red, stood 3rd in the junior class at the International Red & White Show. Brandon has bred 1 of the 4 animals in his herd, and has one milking cow with production records to 24,500 pounds of milk.

As a member of the Hilmar Colony 4H club, Brandon has received a gold award for his 4H record book, and helped organize their annual pancake breakfast. He also is active in community service, packing food boxes for the local needy residents through Turlock Together. Brandon is also a member of their communications project, where he is learning to prepare speeches and presentations. He is also a member of the boys cooking group.

54 California Holstein News Annual 2010

Brandon is also active at school and at church. He is involved with his church youth group at Holy Rosary Church. At Hilmar Middle School, he is proud to maintain a 4.0 GPA, and is a mem- ber of the Honor Society. He also finds time to play baseball, football and basketball.

When asked why he should be considered for this award, Brandon states that his grandparent’s registered Holstein herd has influenced him. He has had a passion for the black and white cow since he was a little boy. He helps with chores at the dairy, and is eager to learn all he can about the day-to-day operations of the dairy. He has a future goal to develop his own herd of excellent Registered Holsteins.

Brandon’s first Holstein heifer was given to him by his grandfather, Rocha Vue Lheros Molly. Molly has shown well for Brandon at the Los Banos Fair, Stanislaus County Fair and California State Fair. Mol- ly now has a heifer by Toystory. To expand his herd, Brandon saved his money, and purchased Miss Advent Variation-Red at the Gil-Tex Stampede sale. In addition to her placing at World Dairy Expo, Vari- ation-Red was named Jr. Champion at the 2009 Stanislaus County Fair. Te latest addition to Brandon’s herd is Mi-Sha Gold Gyn-ET, or “Goldie”. Goldie was purchased at the 2009 National Convention Sale, and will be shown as a Spring Yearling in 2010.

We congratulate Brandon on his Award and Young Breeder of the Future Boy!
