Back in October we gathered at our planning conference to outline the course of the year. Because of the financial success of our National Convention, we decided we should invest in our Association and give back to our membership. Here are some of the items your board of directors decided to implement.

Our members are experiencing extreme financial difficulties, so the Association de- cided to rebate one half of this year’s membership fees.

The 2010 California Annual is being done “In House” once again. Thanks to Carolina Evangelo and her crew for this wonderful issue.

Our juniors are the bright future of our Association, so we wanted to invest in their programs as well. One ac- tion we took was to contribute financially to the Cow Camp over the next five years.

We decided to make California Holstein more visible on the World Wide Web. We started a Facebook page, which has grown to nearly 230 members – from all across the country. On average, nearly 250 people per week visit our page to see what’s going on with California Holsteins.

Another way we made our Association more visible, to both a national and international audience, was by teaming up with Cowsmopolitan to provide online show coverage of our 2010 California State Holstein Show. On show day, real time class-by-class results and photos were posted online. Also, an extensive photo gallery of show day photos was posted, showcasing the best of California Holsteins around the world.

As you can see the cover of this year’s publication is graced by the State Show Grand Champion Dinomi Of- froad Ryley – ET. Congratulations to Dinomi Holsteins and the Migliazzo Family on your big win this year! This year’s state show could not have been possible without the help and support of our sponsors. I extend a personal thank you to all of you for your ongoing support of our show and Association.

The Stanislaus Holstein Club hosted an outstanding State Convention in 2010. The activities, banquet and sale were classy and one of a kind. My congratulations and thanks for a job well done. We must not forget that most of the members that hosted us were also major committee chairs for the national convention. Thanks for your service above and beyond.

We are very lucky in California to have an amazing lady behind the California Junior Holstein Association – Kirsten Areias. Because of her enthusiasm and zeal for young people our state is home to some of the finest junior Holstein talent in the nation. Though we don’t have the largest junior membership in the nation our junior members are certainly a force to be reckoned with. In California it’s not about quantity of membership, but rather quality, and our juniors are second to none. Our state will be represented at the National Holstein Convention in Minnesota with a dairy bowl team, 3 public speakers, 8 dairy jeopardy contestants. Our juniors will also enter into competition a folding display and digital scrapbook.

A special congratulation is extended to one of our standout junior members, Amanda Moretti – she has been honored as a YDJM semi- finalist. Congratulations Amanda and to all of the teams that will be representing California at the National Convention in Minnesota.

I would like to thank Kate Chapman for all of the work she does to keep our membership informed and up-to- date on current activities. She has done an excellent job with updating our website and getting our Associa- tion news out in newsletters and on Facebook.

Finally I would like to thank all of our great Board of Directors, for taking on committee chairperson responsi- bilities and making important decisions to guide the Association into to a bright future.

Have a wonderful summer!

Jamie Bledsoe President California Holstein Association
