BOOKHAM YOUNG LEADER APPOINTED AS LORD LIEUTENANT CADET IN GIRLGUIDING’S CENTENARY YEAR
In this, the centenary year of Girl Guiding, the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey has chosen to appoint two cadets from Girl Guiding. One has been chosen from Surrey East and one from Surrey West. For the Surrey East position applications were invited from all members of Guiding aged 15 to 17 and those shortlisted were invited to attend a day of tasks and interview with various members of the County team. We are delighted that Alex Landers, a Young Leader with 4th Bookham Guides has been chosen to represent Surrey East. In notifying us of Alex’s appointment Margaret Frosztega, County Commissioner, said: “She was very impressive at the interview and tasks we set, engaged, listening and interesting. I am sure she will well.”

Barbara Abbott, Leader of 4th Bookham Guides and Joint District Commissioner said: “I am delighted that Alex has done so well. She has been a keen and enthusiastic member all the way through Brownies and Guides. I am particularly pleased for Alex as she nearly left Guiding when she had finished as a Guide but was encouraged by one of our Assistant Leaders, Rachael Abbott, to return as a Young Leader. Since then she has grown in confidence and is now a valuable member of our leadership team. Alex is so enthusiastic that she could barely wait for her 16th birthday so that she could start working towards her Queen’s Guide Award! I hope that Alex enjoys her year as one of the Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets and we look forward to hearing all about her experiences.” Barbara continued: “This is one of the best aspects of being a Leader in Guiding. Yes, we are all volunteers, but you get such a great feeling of satisfaction and pride when you see girls develop into well rounded young women ready to take their place in society. To think that I have had a small part in helping them on their way is absolutely amazing.”
