Grandad proud of X Factor singer
A proud grandad from Looe is celebrating after his grandson got through the X Factor auditions for a second time.
Ken Payne told the Cornish Times that he is delighted that Liam, 16, is getting a second shot at fame after losing out at the pre-final selection stage of the singing competition in 2008.
Liam travelled to Barbados with Simon Cowell and five other hopefuls two years ago, but wasn’t picked to take part in the final live shows because, aged just 15, he was deemed too young.
After auditioning in Birmingham
recently, Liam, who lives in Wolverhampton, got a ‘yes’ from all four X Factor judges and received a standing ovation from the audience.
Liam’s grandad, who has lived in Looe since 1983, said: ‘I’m extremely proud of him.
‘I’ve spoken to him a few times since he found out he was through to the next stage and he says he’s over the moon. Of course there are still a lot of people to be heard but the judges seem to be singing his praises at the moment.
‘His grandmother would have been so proud too.’
‘Water quality is compliant’
Looe Town Council is reassuring residents and visitors that water quality at the seaside resort is compliant with Environment Agency standards after a national newspaper printed an article mentioning bathing quality in Looe.
Councillor Brian Galipeau said: ‘The
Sunday Times did a news item and it was on a question of water quality and Looe was mentioned as a failing resort from 2008 data.
‘New data shows that the water quality is compliant.’
They’ve won the lottery!
The youngsters of Looe Sailing Club are celebrating after the Lotto fund’s ‘Our Money, Your Dream’ project awarded them enough cash to buy a new safety boat – and that will mean even more young people can take to the waters of Looe Bay this summer.
The club has an ever-growing band of teenage sailors who receive regular tuition from the club’s seniors in all aspects of sailing, including how best to rig their Mirror dinghies, (top)
