Bid to promote West Looe businesses

West Looe businesses say more signage is needed to let visitors know about the shops on the west side of the town.

Looe Town Council is looking at signage as part of the traffic planning scheme which it is in the process of putting together.

Some business owners say not enough is being done to help them, but Cornwall councillor for West Looe and Lansallos Edwina

Hannaford told the Looe News she is willing to help them.

‘I would be very pleased to assist West Looe traders with any initiative they have as for any additional signage and may even be able to contribute financially from my members allowance if they let me know what they have in mind,’ she said. ‘The shops and businesses in West Looe do desperately need more promotion.’

Application to build houses turned down

An application to build on protected land adjacent to Dawes Lane, East Looe, has been refused by Cornwall Council.

William Martin submitted an application to construct two residential properties with parking on land he bought close to Shutta.

A spokeswoman for Cornwall Council said: ‘The site lies within a

heavily wooded area of land falling within an Area of Great Landscape Value and an Open Area of Local Significance.’

Some residents had been concerned that if permission had been given to build on the site it could impact areas, including the Wooldown, which is subject to the same protection.

Anglers taking part in a charity fishing competition raised £450 for Children’s Hospice South West.

Anglers were sponsored by local companies with the money going to the charity.

Prizes, donated by local companies, went to the winners, Barry Westley, Ivan Waetton, Rupert Hall, Mark Barden and Chris Morris.
