Milestone for Haven


Looe-based charity Ellie’s Haven has now raised more than £300,000 towards building a holiday haven for children with life-limiting illnesses.


Most of the money has been donated or raised by people in the area.


Co-founder of the charity Julie Libby said: ‘£300,439.96 is a lot of money but of course, it’s only a stepping stone towards the £1.6m we need to build a


holiday haven for families with disabled children.’


The charity, inspired by terminally-ill Ellie Libby (5), has moved a step closer to being able to raise large amounts of cash from companies and grant-giving charities such as The Big Lottery Fund.


It has done this by publishing Ellie’s Haven’s Business Plan, which sets out in detail the aims of the charity.


Butcher’s shop reopens


Looe is no longer without a butchers after West Looe Butchers was reopened by O’Keefe’s of Pelynt.


The news has been welcomed by the town council which has been trying to help out shops in West Looe shops during recent disruption caused by the recent engineering works.


Looe’s deputy mayor Brian Galipeau said: ‘The town council has been backing West Looe


shops to help them ride out the disruption.


‘We are also consulting residents about traffic


regulations which would create extra short-stay free parking, during business hours, in West Looe.


‘These may help to attract people in to shop and make it easier for passing trade to stop.’


Two new businesses have also opened in East Looe.
