Mayoress steps in for team Looe mayor Jimmy Dingle, Looe mayoress Susan Dingle,
The mayoress of Looe stepped in at the last moment to row for her town!
Susan Dingle was at Saltash Regatta in an official capacity with her husband, Jimmy, the mayor of Looe.
But when a member of Looe’s rowing team for a town councils race on the River Tamar couldn’t take part, Susan took off her chain of office and donned a
Team Looe T-shirt.
She said: ‘If they had asked me first, I probably would have said I couldn’t row, but there was no one else to do it – I enjoyed it.
Despite going the wrong way around the first marker, the team put in a good performance.
Four council teams took part with Torpoint winning.

Bench in memory of former mayor
A bench in memory of the former mayor of Looe Ron Overd has been unveiled by his widow.
Pat Overd unveiled the bench at Great Tree Farm, Looe, recently at the launch of its new farm shop and cafe.
Three years ago the late Mr
Overd opened the site for business, and owner Rob Otley thought it right to ask Pat to do the honours this time.
The working farm is open to the public and it’s hoped schools could work with the farm to educate children on growing their own produce.
Play area officially open
Children at West Looe Playgroup were delighted to see the official opening of the group’s new all-weather outdoor play area.
Work started on the play area in October 2009 after the initial idea was raised at a committee meeting in November 2007.
More than £20,000 was raised for the project with auctions, discos, raffles and sponsored walks being held.
Wendy Miles from West Looe Playgroup said: ‘The event was to officially open and say thank you to people/organisations that donated grants or supported fundraising so that our outdoor area could be partly covered and widened, and access created to the front of the playgroup where we have another play area.
‘The work started in October 2009 and more than £20,000 was raised to fund the project.
‘The original instigator of the project was Natacha Tagholm in 2007 and without her this huge project would never have been completed.’
Geraldine Oliver from West Looe own Trust officially opened the new outside area.
