Typing and tracing diffuse pollution sources within catchments. EnviroGene Ltd was founded by Dr Robert Sleat in 2004 to service the industrial and environmental markets. EnviroGene supplies complex DNA based analytical services for application in Source Typing and Source Tracing for application in water catchments identifying diffuse sources of pollution. EnviroGene supplies the following innovative technologies to the water sector: Source Typing. EnviroGene has developed gene based assays that, not only, distinguish between human and non-human sources but also quantifies the relative contributions of the respective sources. EnviroGene has also developed gene based assays that can distinguish between various potential animal sources of the bacterial pollution. These assays can estimate the amount of raw sewage impacting on bathing or ground waters. EnviroGene’s Source Tracing technology is based on encapsulating small oligonucleotides (small single stranded DNA molecules) into polymer based particles with the oligonucleotides providing the unique coding capacity. In this form these nanoparticles are used to trace multi-addition points into waterways to trace precisely where polluting outfalls are occurring, Contaminated Groundwaters. Under an inward licence agreement EnviroGene supplies devices for capture of microbes in contaminated groundwater enabling DNA based assays to identify sources of pollution and guide remediation strategies.
