n these challenging times for the global economy, British Water continues to provide its membership of small, medium and large-sized companies with a comprehensive range of diverse services to ensure that they, and the UK supply chain in general, maintain their position at the forefront of the international water industry.
The services we provide are aimed at internationally promoting UK water and wastewater suppliers, process technology providers and environmental service companies – encompassing the whole supply chain – and to support members seeking business opportunities overseas.
They help members decide which markets to enter or expand operations in and provide access to potential business partners including agents, distributors, end-users and water and wastewater service providers. The services include:
• Cascade IT, our recently redesigned international e-newsletter highlighting business opportunities, international industry news and events and sources of information
• Arange of forums for networking and gathering market intelligence

• Round-table meetings and seminars on business and partnership opportunities in specific overseas markets
• Organisation of group visits to selected overseas markets to explore business opportunities
• Hosting of visits to the UK by visiting overseas delegations
• Aconference on the UK water industry supply chain and its position in relation to overseas markets
• The provision of market overviews and specific sources of market research for the water sector
• Raising the profile of the industry • Lobbying internationally
The bi-annual survey of members helps to review and sharpen the focus of international services and refine the markets where we seek to assist members. The survey is conducted over the phone, allowing members to provide open feedback, and responses are analysed and passed back to members and services revised as and where necessary. One of the outputs is the list of British Water priority markets. This list is provided to UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) (the government department responsible for attracting inward investment and promoting overseas trade) to help them align their support for the UK supply chain. British Water has a seat on UKTI’s Water Sector Advisory Group (WSAG) and its India Water Working Group to help inform government policy.
In 2008 British Water was awarded a three-year contract by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) to deliver their international trade visits for the water sector. British Water has also secured funding under UKTI’s Tradeshow Access Programme (TAP) to financially support UK companies who wish to exhibit at overseas exhibitions in the water sector.
