ritish Water is the leading organisation representing the supply chain of the UK water and wastewater industry and comprises equipment suppliers, manufacturers, contractors, consultants and others in the UK. Being a member of British Water not only provides a measure of a company’s role in the industry but implies substance and integrity. However, there is much more.

Market information on home and overseas water and wastewater markets. We provide information on market needs, size, the key players, technology trends and sources of funding, as well as identifying specific projects and potential business opportunities

Facilitating links. We promote contacts between British Water members and prospective customers, partners and suppliers through a series of inward and outward international visits and regular liaison meetings with UK water utilities and major industrial users. We are also in regular contact with governments and government departments, and regulators.
Representation
A voice for the industry.We represent the industry collectively to government, regulators, other institutions, major customers, standards bodies, the EU Commission, training bodies and the press, where often the views of a single, commercial enterprise will not be heard.
A forum for discussion. British Water provides a forum for discussion on
industry issues and a source of information on current trends and developments and their potential impact on members’ businesses.
Best Practice.We promote best practice, both technical and commercial, to increase knowledge, understanding and awareness, to introduce commonality, improve performance, advance knowledge of legislation changes, and disseminate knowledge of new and changing Standards.
Technical Input
We contribute to the development of British Standards, the harmonisation of European Standards and the shift towards international standards on an ongoing basis. British Water represents the interests of the UK water and wastewater industry in all areas where important
decisions are being made and we provide members with a direct conduit and input into the process.
In addition to the benefits of our briefings and programmes which are aimed at promoting business efficiency, and with it, curtailing operational costs, British Water also helps members in peripheral, though often un-noticed ways.
We have unparalleled access to the water supply companies; UK government departments, such as Defra, BERR, DCLG and UKTI; the industry regulators DWI, Ofwat and the Environment Agency, as well as Aqua Europa, the representative body for the European water and wastewater industry – in which British Water played a formative role in setting up. We are also active in the technical standards committees of BSI and the CEN.
