On Monday 10th May Henry Moore’s School Council set up a scenario to solve the parking problems on the spur road, the Kiddi Caru car park and generally outside the main entrance of the school. We were hoping to shock all the parents to teach them to be much more careful with their parking and driving. We were also trying to warn the children to be more thoughtful about cars coming their way. This went on for four more days.


The scenario was about a child that had been knocked off a bike or scooter by a car. The car had been positioned in different directions as if it was reversing, driving a 3 point turn onto the pavement behind or driving forward. Members of the School Council along with the police and school governors were happy to take part in this scenario.


During this week we had rude comments from some drivers and other adults. Members of the School Council were making sure people who weren’t allowed to park in the Kiddi Caru were not able to. Although one driver ignored a child and zoomed straight past her, nearly knocking her over for real.


We hope that people will listen to us and change their ways. Would you like to be lying in a road injured, hurt or even killed? So please stop parking in the Kiddi Caru car park or the spur road. This will make things much safer for our school.


Because of our scenario we have had less cars parking outside the school and many more children walking, cycling or scooting to school. The next week was ‘Walk to School Week’ and on some days there were practically no cars parked outside our school.
