Grass roots cricket club wins top prize
No joke as Harlequins scoop E-Z-GO
Lantra Approval for Pitchcare Training Course
Another first for Pitchcare
Steve Speck (right) with club chairman George Adcock
STEVE Speck, Youth Team Manager and part-time Groundsman at Gloucester Harlequins Cricket Club has won a brand new E-Z-GO MPT utility vehicle in a competition organised by Pitchcare.
The electric MPT 800 vehicle was donated by E-Z-GO to Pitchcare, who used it as incentive for new subscribers to their magazine and website through a competition promoted at the BTME exhibition at Harrogate in January.
Steve Speck was absolutely thrilled and delighted when the vehicle was presented recently at the Club’s ground at Hucclecote Rugby Football Club on the outskirts of Gloucester.
The cricket square is situated on top of the site of an old Roman villa and strict rules add to the complexity of the grounds management tasks undertaken by the club.
“I couldn't believe it when I took the call from Pitchcare to say that I had won. I’d totally forgotten that I entered the competition at BTME and was stunned when told. We are a grass roots cricket club and it
will be a great tool to help us maintain the ground. We could never afford to buy one, so this is absolutely brilliant,” he said.
The machine was delivered by the local dealer for E-Z-GO, TH White Ltd of Knockdown, and handed over to Steve Speck and Club Chairman, George Adcock, by the Editor of Pitchcare, Laurence Gale.
“We are very grateful to Ransomes Jacobsen, the distributors of E-Z-GO, for their generosity in providing such a superb prize for us to use as an incentive to attract new subscribers,” Laurence Gale added. “We had a tremendous response to the competition and I’m delighted that the MPT has gone to a thriving club at grass roots level.”
Gloucester Harlequins Cricket Club was formed in 1911 and compete in the highly successful and competitive Gloucestershire County League which has 90 clubs split into 10 divisions. The club has two adult teams and three junior teams which compete at under-15, under-13 and under-10 levels.
WE are delighted to announce that the Pitchcare General Sports Turf Maintenance (Winter Sports) course has now received approval as a Lantra Customised Award, and future students will earn a Lantra-endorsed Certificate of Attendance.
Customised Awards are designed to enable training providers to access certification for the training and/or assessment that they offer.
A benefit of registering a Customised Award is the external quality assurance that is associated with it. Quality assurance may involve audit reports, notification and minutes of relevant meetings, visits to centres etc., so students can be assured that the high standards Pitchcare training strives for will be maintained.
Coordinator, Chris Johnson
Pitchcare Training
In addition, instructors delivering Customised Awards are required to provide evidence that they are qualified in instructional techniques and to demonstrate technical knowledge and expertise.
As well as details of the course aims and content (designed by our very own Dave Saltman), our Submission for Lantra Awards Accreditation had to include information about resources that will be used for delivering the course, details of our own quality assurance processes and background information about
the Pitchcare organisation. There is no doubt that being able to present Pitchcare as a professional organisation, committed to our members and determined to work to high standards across all departments, strengthened our application.
The one-day Lantra accredited General Sports Turf Maintenance (Winter Sports) course will be offered at various locations throughout the UK in the coming months and is ideal for volunteers and part-time groundsmen or greenkeepers. To register your interest for future courses, just email
chris@pitchcare.com with your details or call 01604 810023.
