DEALERS GET DEMANDING!

Courses and Service Dealers seek help to upgrade according to Course Care

N

ot only is there growing evidence that a number of turfcare

maintenance facilities are in need of upgrading, but an increasing number of service dealers and distributors are also looking at ways to upgrade, according to Course Care Joint MD, David Mears “Over recent months we have noticed a sharp increase in enquiries about our products and services, and this was borne out at BTME where we met a number of dealers. It was evident that there is a demand” said David.

Certainly, many in the industry appear to be looking at ways to improve their facilities and, in the case of service dealers, image and

service too. Addressing Health & Safety matters and ensuring compliance with legislation are prime issues, along with the desire to maximise efficiency and reduce costs. Some of the main areas of possible concern, and remedies, are:

• The creation of effective washpad facilities by installing a ClearWater or similar recycling system (or Separators) to meet the requirement of the Groundwater Regulations 1998, and conserve water.

• Compliance with The Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) (England) Regulations 2001 by ensuring diesel tanks are bunded, and that sump

pallets are used for all other oil storage. Right now fuel stations are on offer at very attractive prices and they make fuel dispensing so easy.

• Ensuring that petrol storage and carriage meets the relevant legislation by using transit boxes or installing a suitable petrol station. It is amazing how many people unwittingly negate insurance cover and put themselves at risk by

collecting petrol from local filling stations in an unapproved manner. (Does your insurance cover permit this?)

• Hazardous waste is managed professionally by a fully licensed company and properly

documented. A professional operator will ensure Audit Trails are

established and can be

scrutinised. It is important to know where your waste is

going and that, as far as possible, it is being recycled.

• Methods of oil dispensing and waste oil collection are efficient and that systems are in place to reduce the risk of spillage and pollution. Products available range from simple roll-along dispensing with metered guns to a fully air-

operated dispensing and extraction system with dedicated waste oil tanks.

• Conformance with EA PPG26 by using spill kits and drip trays.

• Health & Safety legislation is complied with and risk assessments carried out, especially with regard to fume extraction and personal protective equipment.
