Ensure your sponsor feels involved in your events

formulate a project, event, activity that meets the needs of the sponsor's and fits with what your club is set-up to do. It is your club’s responsibility to follow through and deliver what you have promised. While money is the most obvious benefit of a sponsorship, clubs and societies can also gain much in the form of gifts in-kind such as gym membership, admin processing, transport and equipment, space for offices, payment for publicity, and volunteer work paid for by companies where corporate volunteering programmes are in place.

When undertaking a sponsored event it is important to:

• Make contact with the sponsor in advance to find out what they most value

• Check to see if they have to take on a particular

image they want to project

• Where necessary, prepare a proposal outlining your ideas and that clearly states the way the sponsor will deliver cash, or “in kind” sponsorship benefit

• Ensure that your sponsor feels involved in your activities and invite them to events. Sponsors expect to be able to advertise their wares at your event and to have a high profile. Therefore, it is important to think about how you can achieve this. You could put the sponsor’s name on clothing, on promotional material e.g. posters and tickets. You could also advertise the sponsor’s wares/activity in programmes and club newsletters. You could also give the sponsor the opportunity to market products at the venue or to the participants. Ensure

sponsors have their advertising at your venue and use photos of events for their own promotions.

Organised Events and social activities

Events and social activities are one of the most popular forms of fundraising. Many clubs do possess land, providing the opportunity for convenient, cost effective and easy to organise events such as a fete, car boot sale, or BBQ, an effective fundraising tool. Although they can require rather more organisation, social nights are a good way to raise the profile of the club or society, raise funds and ensure members enjoy themselves. The key to a successful social event is plenty of targeted advertising in advance and choosing a location and timing that is convenient to all.
