with 16mm tines, and an application of Heritage fungicide, we covered the entire grass surface - all 9,400 square metres of it - in readiness for the concert set up. So, far from sitting with our feet up recently, we have been more than a little bit busy!
The set up started with the aluminium trackway being put down before the Rolatrac guys could start.
All the pitch was soon
covered and we saw the pitch area for the last time for three weeks. We decided it would be best to leave the flooring down between shows as we weren’t concerned about losing the little bit of grass cover on the pitch itself as it is going to be Koro’d again after the last concert. It also reduces the traffic on and off the pitch between shows. The concert was played to a crowd of almost 60,000 Bon Jovi fans. What was pleasing for us was that from where we were in the directors box, we could see there wasn’t the jumping up and down of the crowd as there had been in the five concerts last year. Hopefully,
this will keep the overall ground pressure to a minimum at the end of the concert period. The Rolatrac guys came in the following morning and exposed the verges around the pitch to give these newly sown areas some recovery time before the set up for two sell out nights of Take That on the 17th and 18th June. As we folded the sheets back, it was soon apparent that the Tildenet sheets were a good investment with the debris left on them. These areas haven’t established particularly well so far at all due to the cold and wet weather we have had up here but, once the last remains of the concerts have gone and our renovation work can be completed, we will have six weeks before the first game. Last year we had less than four but benefited from a good summer and autumn, resulting in a good season for the pitch. This again will be crucial to us this year but, as we all know, we can’t control the weather - I just wish we could! Roll on August 12th!
