Here’s our very personal choice of five of the best events worth a trip out to see in Somerset over the next few weeks.


1. YEOVIL COUNTRY PARK FAYRE 31st May


Yeovil Country Park May Fayre hosts a whole variety of countryside-themed events for hundreds of families this Bank Holiday Monday. South Somerset District Council’s Countryside Rangers have been busy organising dozens of wildlife and nature-themed stalls, activities and displays and this year will be teaching the art of bushcraft, introducing the skills of fire- lighting and making string from natural materials. 10am – 4pm. 2. FEASTIVAL FARMERS’ MARKET


Kilver Court Gardens, Shepton Mallet – 13th June


Kilver Court is a stylish eco- lifestyle venue located just outside Shepton Mallet. Our next Local Producers Market is on Sunday 9th May from 10am - 2pm. The market hosts a range of stalls including local food and drink, plant specialists,


local crafts and other exciting things for families such as lambs, ducklings, chickens, musicians and much, much more. Garden entry is half price at only £2 so why not stay for lunch in the cafe and make it a family day out?! With the Mulberry factory shop still next door, owners Roger Saul & his wife Monty have now developed this wonderful destination venue. 10am – 2pm.

4. GARDENS, PLANT & FOOD FAIR IN AID OF ST MARGARET’S HOSPICE


Cothay Manor – 19th June


The chance to combine a worthy plant fair with the 12


acres of magical gardens which surround the manor. Many garden rooms, each a garden in itself, are set off a 200 yd yew walk. In addition there is a bog garden with azaleas and drifts of primuli, fine trees, cottage garden, courtyards, and a river walk. A plantsman’s paradise. 11am – 4.30pm.

5. ROSE & SWEETPEA SHOW 2nd July


Wincanton Memorial Hall


It is a members only show in terms of entries but visitors are welcome. In addition for the last two years there’s been the judging of the ‘Grow one potato in a bag’. The club has been established for 53 years, initially mainly to hold a summer flower show and then it broadened out to include a variety of meetings. 7.30pm.


3. BINHAM GRANGE, Tea with Flowers Old Cleeve, Minehead – 20th June


Binham Grange delights in the wonderful concept of afternoon tea including ‘Tea with Flowers’ with Susie Logan from the Horse and Crookshop in Dunster. 3pm – 5pm. £12 Susie will demonstrate flower posies to complement your tea table. Full Afternoon Tea is included - and at Binham Grange that is something special. The traditional tea table will be elegantly laid with table cloths, napkins, beautiful antique bone china and flowers from the garden. Colourful, unique cake stands will present a selection of finger sandwiches, tempting pastries, biscuits and scones accompanied by a choice of home made jams and thick clotted cream. Tea will be served in china pots, experience of a bygone era.
