Here’s our very personal choice of five of the best events worth a trip out to see in Devon over the next few weeks


1. GLORIOUS GARDENS TRAIL FOR CHILDREN: Knightshayes Court - Thursday June 3rd


Great fun for the children as clues around the fantastic and vast Knightshayes Court gardens lead to discover their secrets. Normal admission changes apply and booking isn’t needed. There are two sessions- 11.30am to 12.30pm and 1-2pm.


The garden is renowned for its rare trees, shrubs and seasonal colours so worth a trip for the adults as well.


2. TAVISTOCK GARDEN FESTIVAL


Sunday May 24th and Monday May 25th


The fifth Tavistock Garden Festival is on Sunday May 24 and Monday May 25. The free event will run on both days from 10am to 4pm and features a variety of exhibitors satisfying people’s passion for plants. Each year, organisers look to expand by inviting more South West businesses and nurseries to attend


the show. The event is held in and around the Pannier Market and Bedford Square, consisting of nearly 30 exhibitors (plant & gardening ancillary stalls) – from all over the region.

4 FLOWER FESTIVAL – HISTORY OF WITHYCOMBE Friday June 25th to Sunday June 27th


Combine a quality flower festival and local history with this three day festival featuring the history


of Withycombe. The event is held in St John the Evangelist Church, Withycombe Road, Exmouth. Friday/Saturday: 10am – 6pm. Sunday: 12noon – 4pm

3. SCENTS OF SUMMER WEEKEND RHS Rosemoor, Great Torrington – Saturday June 19th and Sunday June 20th


One of the treats of the year at RHS Rosemoor as the gardens celebrate all that is delightful about the garden in summer! Both rose gardens will have reached a crescendo of colour and scent just in time to form a heady backdrop to the ‘Scents of Summer’ weekend. Indulge your senses with two days full of the glorious scents of the garden in June. There will be plenty to do, including sensuous ‘smell boxes’, where you can test your senses, walks, talks, advice and children’s trails. The weekend features our ever-popular Rose Sunday. 10am – 5pm.

5 FLOWER FESTIVAL – ST PETROC’S CHURCH, LYDFORD Nr Okehampton -Friday June 25th to Sunday June 27th


Lydford hosts is traditional flower festival over this weekend. Apart from the many pleasure of the flower festival. Lydford is well worth visiting for itself as it lies in beautiful countryside ideal for walks within Dartmoor National Park. 10am – 5pm. Details on 01822 810697,
