Save A Family Plan

Founded in 1965, SAVE A FAMILY PLAN (SAFP) is a Canadian non-governmental organization (NGO) based in London, Ontario and in Parappuram, Kerala (India). With a focus on poverty reduction through sustainable development, SAFP works with poor and marginalized populations in India, regardless of caste, creed, gender, or political affiliation.

Our Mission SAFP’s mission statement is ―partnering with the poor for a just world‖. Currently, SAFP works in partnership with over 50 Indian NGO’s to implement program activities in 11 Indian states. The Family Development Program aims to promote and strengthen economic and social development of families through the creation of sustainable income initiatives. The Community Development Program receives funding from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and contributes to the reduction of poverty by ensuring efficient management of natural resources (through integrated watershed development), increased educational status, improved health conditions, and improved economic conditions in targeted rural villages.

SAFP and its partner organizations support community-based organizations (eg. self-help groups/sanghams) and grassroots planning, whereby local people and communities are empowered to take responsibility and control over their own resources and, through training and skill-building, are assisted in increasing their capacity to understand and deal with local development challenges.
