AWARD-WINNING WATER: Mesquite Groves Aquatic Center, with “Big Blue” top center, is the third Chandler pool to win the Outstanding Facility Award from Arizona Parks and Rec.
If you ask a child in Southern Chandler about the big blue bucket, odds are they will know that you are talking about the City’s Mesquite Groves Aquatic Center. One of the most popular features at Mesquite Groves is Big Blue, the giant bucket that dumps 752 gallons of water on swimmers every two minutes. Amenities like Big Blue, lazy rivers, water vortexes, play pools, diving boards and water slides of various shapes and sizes are some of the things that help Mesquite Groves and all of Chandler’s pools and aquatic centers compare favorably with the big privately owned water theme parks, while offering terrific bargains for residents.
Right now, summer is in full swing at all six aquatic centers and pools operated by the Chandler Aquatics Division: Hamilton, Mesquite Groves, Arrowhead,
Desert Oasis, Folley and West Chandler. Each facility offers unique water features and amenities, plus select programs like swimming lessons, exercise classes, birthday party packages, facility rentals, lap swimming and more. Hours, programs and amenities vary by location. Check the City website for details at
www.chandleraz.gov/aquatics.
The daily admission fees are very reasonable at $.75 for children ages 2 to 17; $2 for adults 18 to 54; $1 for active seniors ages 55 and older; and children younger than 2 are free. Swimming at Chandler pools is already a bargain, and the savings is even greater when residents purchase punch passes or a family season pass. Punch passes save 33 percent on children’s fees and as much as 30 percent for adults. A season pass for a family of four, available to Chandler residents only, is $112, and each additional family member is $15 more. For additional cost savings, visit the pools during the free swim sessions and $1 Family Nights held each week at various times and locations. And don’t forget that Chandler has three free spray pads offering even more cool watery fun at Chuparosa, Desert Breeze and Espee parks.

Mesquite Groves
makes big splash Mesquite Grove Aquatics Center has made a big splash for the residents of Southern Chandler, as well as guests from neighboring Gilbert and Queen Creek, since opening in the summer of 2008. It is one of the premier public aquatic facilities in Arizona, winning the 2009 Outstanding Facility Award from the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association (APRA). It is the third Chandler aquatic center to receive the award, joining Hamilton in 2001 and Desert Oasis in 1993.
Mesquite Groves Aquatic Center is used year- round, which is one reason it had twice as many admissions in 2009 with 155,876 as the next highest facility, Hamilton, with 74,967. The next busiest aquatic center was West Chandler, 49,151, followed by Desert Oasis, 31,163; Arrowhead Pool, 23,205; and Folley Pool, 3,598. Similar attendance numbers are expected this year.
