Headteacher: 2nd June 2010 Mr. C Willsher BA Chair of Governors: Mr S Ayub
Dear Parents and Carers Belle Vue Boys’ School is thinking about becoming a Trust School and this letter is to explain our ideas and proposals to you and to ask for your views.
Our proposed Trust
Trust schools are a new kind of school – part of the local authority system but supported by a Trust that will appoint some of the governors. Bradford already has a number of Trust Schools: Buttershaw Business and Enterprise College, Nab Wood School, Queensbury School, Thornton School and Tong High School. The Governing Body will continue to run the school and be responsible for its performance, and I will continue to be Headteacher.
As you know, we share a campus with Belle Vue Girls’ School and serve many of the same families. The proposal is that the two schools will be supported by a Trust, which is a charitable organisation, formed by the University of Bradford, Bradford District Council and Hallmark Cards PLC our neighbour on the campus and the international headquarters for Hallmark Cards. These partners will form the trust board.
Belle Vue Boys’ School already has very strong links with the University, we are an Associate School of the University and many of our students attend events at the University or have joined the Junior University. Our links with the University have helped the school achieve our improved results profile at GCSE and in post-16 examinations.
Belle Vue Boys’ School will remain a single sex boys’ school dedicated to raising standards of achievement. We believe that with our partners, we will continue to raise standards, but will be able to offer an even more personalised curriculum so that every boy can reach his full potential in a wider range of courses, especially with increased vocational provision. We also hope that the University will be able to attract adult learners from our communities to take up Level 4 (university level) courses on our campus. We believe that through the Trust, we will be able to improve campus management and the quality of facilities we have on site including a range of services to support our local communities.
