Lindsay Hobbs Wins Student Essay Contest

submitted by Jean McNeill, St. Francis of Assisi School Lindsay Hobbs, a fourth grader in Mrs. McNeill’s class at St. Francis of Assisi School in Litchfield, won the Manchester Summer Scholars 2010 Student Essay Contest. The winner wins an academic hands-on day camp at Saint Anselm College in Manchester. Students had to write an essay about an issue in the world and ways to provide a solution. Lindsay chose beach pollution. She had to research the problem, write an essay about it, and provide a possible solution to the problem. The 2010 Manchester Summer Scholars Essay Contest was open to all schools with grades four, five, six, and seven. There was only one winner for this contest, and it was Lindsay. The cost of the program is $345, but for Lindsay, it will be free! She will be participating from July 19 to 23. Congratulations, Lindsay, on a job well done!

I am a 7 year-old male Chihuahua cross with a beautiful black coat anxiously waiting to meet my new family. I am nervous with new people at first, but once I am sure it’s safe, I am a sweet little dog who loves to give

attention! Typically I am laid back and love to have a lap to sit in. I am uneasy around young children and bark at cats, but enjoy playing with other small dogs. Since I am a senior, someone over the age of 60 could adopt me for very little out of pocket expense through the Pets for the Elderly Foundation. Please

come to the Humane Society to meet me and my friends and learn more about this

program to help place senior animals with senior citizens.

208 Central Street, Rt 111, Hudson Anti-Bullying Bill Signed into Law

submitted by Colin Manning Surrounded by lawmakers, educators, and students, Governor John Lynch signed a law Tuesday, June 15, that strengthens and updates New Hampshire’s existing anti-bullying statute. The new law, House Bill 1523, will strengthen the state’s existing anti-bullying statute by ensuring every school has a clear anti-bullying policy, and the new law for the first time addresses the act of cyber-bullying. “As Governor, I have made the safety of our

children a priority, and today, we are continuing our efforts to protect our most important

resource—our children,” Governor Lynch said. “Together – as elected officials, parents, teachers, school administrators, and law enforcement – we need to send a clear message of zero tolerance for bullying, and we will not allow it in our schools.” New Hampshire first enacted an anti-bullying

law in 2000. This new law strengthens the existing statute by requiring school districts to have a written anti-bullying policy. It also adds cyber-bullying – bullying through electronic means such as cell phones, social networking sites, and e-mails – to statute for the first time. “Through the use of technology, bullying can

be taken to a whole new level—very often out of sight to adults, parents, and teachers,” Governor Lynch said. “Today, with this new law, we are sending a strong message that we will not tolerate bullying in any form,” Governor Lynch said. “This is a big step forward in ensuring our schools will continue providing safe, nurturing environments.” House Bill 1523 was sponsored by Representative

Donna Schlachman, Judith Day, Jayne Spaulding, Nancy Stiles, Pamela Price; and Senators Maggie Hassan and Molly Kelly.

My name might be misleading, but I really am a girl. I am a 6 year-old tabby with a unique buff colored coat! I am here at the shelter because my family had to move and could not keep me. I like attention, but I don’t like to be handled too much, so I

would enjoy a home with adults or grown children. I have lived with two cats and two young active dogs and was happy living with these other pets. I just hope my new home has toy mice for me to play with as they are my favorite toy!

Bella Tucker Fund Yard and Bake Sale

submitted by Cindy Caron, President, MOMS Club of Hudson Area The MOMS Club of Hudson Area, NH thanks everyone who turned out for their

Yard and Bake Sale on Sunday to raise money for the Bella Tucker Fund. We were able to raise $1,200 and really appreciated seeing shoppers and snackers

turn out in the overcast and sometimes rainy weather. Also, thanks so much to our Moms, the kids that helped, and the husbands that support us.

Driver Distraction Causes Ferry Street Crash

submitted by Hudson Police Department On Sunday, June 13, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Hudson police responded to a single-vehicle accident by 72 Ferry Street. The lone vehicle involved, a 2007 Mazda M-6, was operated by a subject identified as Abdul Sarvalov, 24, of Manchester. Sarvalov was traveling eastbound on Ferry Street

when he crossed over the westbound lane of traffic and struck a telephone pole before coming

to a rest on the westbound side of the road. There was extensive damage to the vehicle. Sarvalov and his passenger were not wearing their seatbelts and sustained minor injuries. They were not transported to the hospital. An investigation at the scene revealed that alcohol was not a factor and that driver distraction was a cause for the accident. Sarvalov was charged with one count of Negligent Driving and one count of Crossing Over the Yellow Line.
