Short Term Retailer of the Year 2010
Commercialisation is growing in importance for centre owners and managers. Which emerging retailers are bringing variety and verve to shopping centres through their RMUs and pop-up stores?
Shortlist
Dyson (at Bluewater) In an industry first, household brand Dyson’s pop-up store in Bluewater allowed shoppers to engage with products in a carefully designed, industrial setting.
Cosy Camper (at Buchanan Galleries) With a colourful array of clothing and camping equipment on offer, Cosy Camper achieves an annual turnover of £275,000, double that of any other first floor RMU at Buchanan Galleries.
Jumping Clay (at Westfield Castlecourt) Jumping Clay was introduced as part of Castlecourt’s RMU strategy to deliver new and innovative products. Alongside retail, it offers an educational platform through creative play.
Just Lovely (at White Rose) Having launched at White Rose eight years ago, Just Lovely has expanded from RMUs to shop outlets. Its collection of bags now sells across White Rose, Meadowhall and the Bull Ring.
Natural Wood (at The Glades) Offering traditional wooden bowls and ornaments from sustainable sources, Natural Wood combines a quality product with high levels of customer service at The Glades in Bromley.
The Disney Store (at Touchwood) Economic uncertainty prompted Disney to open a temporary store in Touchwood, Solihull – a coup for a small centre. The store traded 33 per cent above forecast in the first quarter of 2010.
