Craigavon goes back

to Uganda Over 20 volunteers from the retailers and management at Rushmere shopping centre in Craigavon have headed off to Uganda as part of the centre’s successful Uganda Schools Project. Now in its second phase,

the unusual initiative has seen over £20,000 donated by local shoppers and visitors to the centre which has gone directly towards the drilling of an essential water borehole, purchase of text books and teacher support material. With the foundations

charity at Q-Park Over 1,000 women are celebrating a successful 9km walk around the city centre of Liverpool in aid of the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. Participants of the Liver

Birds Midnight Walk parked at the Liverpool One Q-Park and were given 50 per cent discount off their overnight parking rate, with half of the money taken by Q-Park on the night also donated to the charity. This allowed the walkers to park in one of the safest car parks in the city centre which is manned on a 24 hour basis, well lit, secure and therefore ideal for females travelling alone. Adam Bidder, managing

director of Q-Park, said: “At Q-Park we enjoy supporting the Liver Birds midnight walk, this being the second year we have worked together and I would like to give special thanks to our car park hosts at Liverpool One who helped direct the walkers to their cars and ensure they felt safe before and after their hike around Liverpool’s tremendous city centre.”

The volunteers will spend their time working with the children and teachers to develop teaching plans and participate in classroom activities throughout the week-long trip. Centre manager Martin

Walsh is leading the team for the second consecutive year. “It is our lasting legacy to provide the children of Kibaale with the facilities and equipment needed to help them build a brighter future for themselves and their families,” he said.

Rachel’s one in a million for Morpeth

Happy shopper Rachel Ozers got more than she bargained for when she visited Morpeth’s Sanderson Arcade with her Mum during a weekend trip home from London. She was totally unaware of

the millionth customer promotion being run at the shopping centre, but as she stepped out of Paperchase, where she’d popped

in to buy a card, she was tapped on the shoulder and was told she had won a £500 shopping spree with her very own personal shopper. She said: “It is fantastic. I have

got some lovely things and still can’t believe it. I came to get a birthday present for my sister and this just came completely out of the blue.”
