As Postal Innovation expands its 2010 roadmap of events, influential leaders from the postal in- dustry have added their names to the list of inspiring speakers and participants, who will play a major role throughout the year as this new global initiative expands both its reach and scope.

Virtual

The inaugural Postal Innovation Conference

took place in Abu Dhabi, Unit-

ed Arab Emirates, on May 3-4. The event opened its doors in the capital of the United Arab Emirates under the patronage of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior H.H. Sheik Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan on May 3-4, 2010, endorsed by the European Commission, the Emir- ates Identity Authority and Abu Dha- bi Police.

The cardinal event of 2010, Postal Innovation Conference & Exhibition, takes place in Milan, on November 16-18, featuring a 3-day confer- ence, a 2-day exhibition and extra networking activities. It will be host- ed at the 9th ID WORLD Interna- tional Congress (www.idworldonline. com).

The scope of Postal Innovation encompasses business, technol- ogy and methodology aspects. It explores the intersections of the physical, virtual and financial do- mains of the postal and express

shipping business to analyze the areas where the highest financial contribution resides: for instance in tracking, remittance services, pen- sion payments at Post Offices and e-commerce payments. Key topics and application areas for discussion and development include identification strategies, advanced express logistics, personal/geo-ref- erencing, quality of service (QOS) as well as interoperability.

ID for change

ID is the change agent for the postal sector as new technolo- gies evolve and disrupt existing processes. Barcode-based legacy systems have proven effective in meeting both the shippers’ and customers’ expectations to be able to track and trace shipments on an almost real-time basis for their global business intelligence and visibility requirements. Nev- ertheless, the global postal and parcel shipping market has long been predicted to be one of the largest potential applications for RFID. However, advanced identi- fication technologies can provide more than just tracking.

Secure identification, authentica- tion and trust is a must in areas such as remittance services and e-commerce areas, which repre- sent the key to improved services and additional revenue opportu- nities for the postal and express shipping sector.
