Friday, June 11 A concert to benefit the Salem Animal Rescue League will be held at Windham High School from 6:30-11 p.m., and will include the bands: Keep Me Conscious, The Blue Pages, The Series, The Envy Of August, Enemies Kept Closer, The Sometimes, and Flow and the Unemployed Teachers Union. Saturday, June 12 St. Patrick School, 16 Main Street, Pelham, will hold a Community Spring Festival Day from 7 a.m.-3 p.m., featuring a pancake breakfast from 7-10:30 a.m. with flavored pancakes, fruit, sausage, and beverages; a 5K road race with registration at 8:30 a.m. for the 9 a.m. race, 10:30 a.m. kid sprint, and lots of prizes and tees; children’s games from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.; a craft fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; touch-a-truck; a duck race at 11 a.m.; a dunk tank; delicious food; a classic/antique car show; and more. All proceeds benefit St. Patrick School.


A concert to benefit Pelham Athletic Facilities will be held at the Harris Family Track and Field at 4 p.m. featuring the following bands: Just Joe; Pelham High School’s Mr. Joe Perigny and special guest Mr. Bob Moore; the B-Street Bombers, featuring PHS alum Mandy Powers; and Not Broken, featuring Pelham High School’s Mr. Dave Torissi. Gates open at 3:15 p.m. and the first band will begin at 4 p.m. There is a small fee for tickets. The Concession Stand will be open. In recognition of Flag Day, the Pelham Boy Scout Troops #610 and #25 will be performing a Flag Retirement Ceremony at the Pelham Fish and Game Club at 5:30 p.m. All citizens are invited. Last year’s ceremony included many honors made by Pelham citizens who also participated. Non- serviceable flags can be delivered to the Pelham VFW Post, 6 Main Street, or brought to the ceremony on Sunday.


Wednesday, June 23 Once again, Pelham will be hosting its annual concerts on the Village Green in front of the Pelham Public Library. Pelham Community Spirit will be sponsoring the event, with help from our community businesses. This year’s concerts will start on June 23 at 6 p.m. in conjunction with the Pelham Public Library Summer Reading Program sign-ups. Annie and the Orphans will entertain the crowd with hits from the ‘50s, ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s. Sign up for the Summer Reading Program and make your own ice cream sundae for free. No admission charges to attend the concert. Bring a chair or blanket and your family and friends. Food is available for purchase to benefit local non-profit groups.


Friday, June 25 The Pelham Public Library will offer a certified Red Cross Babysitting Course. The Babysitter’s Training Course from the American Red Cross will teach you everything you need to be a great babysitter. This fun, interactive course teaches First Aid and safety skills so you can prevent and respond to emergencies. There is a fee for this valuable program, due by June 18. Participants must be between the ages of 11-15 years old. Please bring a snack and lunch, and the library will provide drinks and dessert. Pre-registration is necessary for this course, so stop by the library, or call 635-7581 to sign up today.

Saturday, June 26 The Windham Police Association will host the Fourth Annual Knight Ride, a police- escorted motorcycle ride to the seacoast, which will begin with rider registration from 8-9 a.m. at Park Place Lanes, 16 Rockingham Road, Windham. A cookout will be held following the ride, starting at noon at the Derry Salem Elks Lodge, 29 Shadow Lake Road, Salem. The cookout will feature great food, music, and raffle prizes. A 2010 Harley-Davidson Street Glider will be raffled off, and your rider registration is free with purchase of a Harley raffle ticket. There is a cost for the ride and for the cookout. All proceeds from this event will benefit The Mark W. Knight Memorial Scholarship Fund. All registered riders will receive a free Knight Ride T-shirt and admission to the cookout. Saturday, June 26 The Pelham Strawberry Festival will be held at the Pelham Senior Center, 8 Nashua Road, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The event will feature the Canobie Lake Ramblers, and Professional Ventriloquist Terri Shawver will perform a show at 12:30 p.m. to entertain the children. There will also be face painting, eight raffle baskets, a handmade quilt raffle, a free Wall- E bounce house, balloons, games and prizes, and refreshments. Tuesday, June 15 The Pelham Public Library will host a book discussion with local author Bill Drover from 3:30-5 p.m. Bill’s new book, Stumbling Upon the Extraordinary, is his first. It is his retelling of his life’s lessons and struggles raising twin boys, one of who is autistic. This is a wonderfully “real” book about what is important in our lives and what is not. Bill will have books available for purchase at the discussion, and there is currently one for loan at the Pelham Public Library.


Kids of all ages are invited to the Pelham Public Library from 3:30-4:30 p.m. to make a gift for Dad for his special day on June 20. The children will have an opportunity to decorate a picture frame using a mat board and nuts and bolts. Bring a favorite photo along to put in the frame when it’s finished.


Thursday, June 17 The Pelham Public Library will host a seminar on Getting Organized with Lorraine Falcone from Naturally Organized, from 6-8 p.m. For more information, call the library at 635-7581.


Wednesday, June 23 Join the Pelham Public Library on the Village Green for “Annie and the Orphans” at 6 p.m. as part of the Summer Reading Program Kick- off. Anyone who signs up for the Summer Reading program gets an ice cream!

Thursday, June 17 Windham residents interested in promoting and sustaining local agricultural activity in town are invited to attend a meeting at 7 p.m. at the Nesmith Library to discuss farming in town. People raising vegetables, flowers, nursery plants, poultry, and livestock are encouraged to join this informal discussion, organized by Windham resident Lori Demaine. Erick Sawtelle, a member of the Town of Lee Agricultural Commission, will be speaking about how Lee has been promoting and protecting local agriculture. Theresa Walker of the Rockingham Planning Commission will be looking for your help in identifying where in Windham people are farming, raising livestock and poultry, etc. For more information, call Theresa Walker at 534-3913.


The Windham Garden Club will celebrate the close of its 19th season with its Summer Solstice evening. The event, which will be held at Windham’s Searles School at 6 p.m., will feature a BYOB cocktail hour, followed by the group’s famous gourmet potluck dinner. Spouses and significant others are invited to the dinner and awards program, which will include the presentation of the Club’s Rookie of the Year and coveted Golden Trowel prizes. Among the evening’s special guests will be the two winners of the 2010 Nancy Surette Memorial Scholarships and their families. Members must reserve space and indicate food donations in advance by phoning Ms. Heider at 434-4564.

Saturday, June 12 Pelham Athletic Department presents a concert to benefit Pelham Athletic Facilities. The concert will be held at the Harris Family Track and Field, and will begin at 4 p.m. All proceeds will benefit improvements and upgrades for Pelham Athletic Facilities. There is a cost to attend. Wednesday, June 16 The Friends of Pelham High School Hockey will hold a fundraising night at Fuddruckers in the Village Mall, 436 Broadway, Route 28, Methuen. Twenty percent of all proceeds will be donated to Friends of Pelham Hockey.


Thursday, June 17 The Windham Middle School eighth-grade class will hold their Second Annual Ride for the Future to raise money for the Jimmy Fund by riding from the Howie Glynn’s parking lot to the Middle School on the last day of school. Ride your bike, scooter, or rollerblade. The first 144 registrants will receive a T-shirt. There is a small fee to register, and checks can be made to the Jimmy Fund. Sign up at lunch. We ride for our futures, and for all those who are fighting for their futures!


Sports & Recreation


Starting Now The Windham Recreation Department will sponsor a Women’s Fitness Boot Camp. Challenge yourself with all the fun drills and exercises as Extreme Fitness Boot Camp— only at a lower intensity. In this program, we will focus on total body conditioning using dumbbells and resistance bands to tone and tighten all the difficult areas. We will also focus on cardiovascular endurance, as well as flexibility and core strength. Classes are offered on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8-9 a.m. at Griffin Park. Saturday, June 12 Once every four years, players and fans from around the globe experience the excitement of the FIFA World Cup. It is the most commonly played sport worldwide, and is gaining popularity here in the US. Come and watch the World Cup match, USA versus England, at Chunky’s in Pelham from 1:30-5:30 p.m. Tickets purchased will help support the Windham Soccer Association, a non-profit organization in town. Chunky’s serves food and drinks, so you can relax and enjoy a live broadcast of the biggest sport in the world. To get tickets, you can log on to www.windhamsoccer.org. Tickets are also available the day of the event at the door.


Monday, June 28 – Friday, July 2 Windham High School will hold its First Annual Boys’ Basketball camp. For boys entering grades 3-6 in the fall 2010 school year, the camp will run from 8-11 a.m. For boys entering grades 7-11 in the fall 2010 school year, the camp will run from noon-4 p.m. Enrollment is limited. Monday, June 28 – Friday, July 2 Pelham Parks and Recreation, 6 Village Green, Pelham, is now accepting registrations for the very well attended and fun-filled instructional British soccer clinic offered by Challenger Sports. The Monday- Friday camp will take place at Muldoon Park, 304 Mammoth Road, Pelham, during the week of June 28. Forms are available at our town hall office. An emergency contact form will be needed for each child; please request from our office. The program is open to children ages 3 to 16 for mini-soccer—half- day or full-day. The cost varies depending on session. Camp runs rain or shine. Open to residents and non-residents. A free soccer ball and free T-shirt are given to each participant on day one.
