granted just how special a city it is. Needless to say, after my stint in Shoreditch I packed up and headed back to Oxford to make the most of this special city, the talented people who live in it, and those who are drawn in to it from around the world. Producing the fashion week for two seasons now has been an honour and I have been humbled by the talented people I have had the opportunity to work with. It has also been tremendous fun!

year different to your first event? In 2009 we set out to produce the first Oxford Fashion Week. We knew that Oxford wanted it and had the talent to make it happen. In many ways the first year was an experiment and a shot in the dark. We took risks and experimented with the events to find what worked. In 2010 we took on board everything we learned from 2009. We made the week stronger, tighter, and made better use of Oxford’s best assets. The demand from designers for a platform in Oxford was fantastic and so we grew the number of runway shows from four in 2009 to eleven in 2010. We introduced the Oxford Style Show which provided Oxford Fashion Week with a greater focus on high street design, casual design, vintage design, and new design

talent. It was the most accessible event we have produced and the first event that featured more than one runway show. As a result, we were able to feature over 100 designers, artists, and speakers in 2010. We transformed the OFW Debate into a more personal engaging Forum. The OFW Forum gave attendees the opportunity to ask questions to fashion icons such as David Gandy and Dolly Jones. We brought outlandish pieces worn by Lady Gaga to the OFW Concept Show at the Randolph Hotel. We maintained the exclusivity of the Malmaison Lingerie Show and provided far too much champagne. We closed the week with the Argenteus Exhibition and party at the Cherwell Boathouse. New ideas were tested in 2010 so our headlining event from 2009 was deliberately left out. You will have to watch out for its return in the future.

What’s the central ethos of the week? What we wear is an unavoidable form of communication. Every day we choose what to wear and in doing so we choose how to present ourselves to the world. There is no right way to dress and it all depends on what you want to communicate. You cannot opt out of communicating this way and, since we have to do it every day, we may as well relish the opportunity to have a bit of fun with what we wear.
