Three buildings in Oxfordshire win national architecture award.

Three buildings in the county, including the Ashmolean Museum and the Auditorium, Corpus Christi College, have won prestigious awards for architectural excellence. The RIBA Awards are given for buildings that have high architectural standards and make a substantial contribution to the local environment. The awards are annual, and have been running continuously since 1966.

The Ashmolean project in particular caught the judge’s eye. “The bar for this project could not have been set higher – to take Britain’s oldest museum and increase display space by 100% while retaining Charles Cockerell’s 1845, Grade I Listed building, resulting in 9000 square metres of new accommodation that remains largely invisible to the public realm - this building clears the bar by a mile to give a world class institution a worthy new home.”
