Under 8’s enjoy earning their new badges

AKITAS HELD ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL badge day last month.
The U8’s in particular got in the act, gaining numerous badges to reward their new skills. Akitas have been running the scheme successfully for a number of years now; it gives the Akitas players a chance to demonstrate their skills in a more concentrated and individual way than gradings allow. The scheme, that includes everything from tying the belt to complicated kata, even saw two players achieve the 100 situps badge (ouch!) Above Abigail Peppiatt demonstrates tai-otoshi on Rachael Brown, and brothers Connor and Charlie Patten show off their kesa-gatame & kami-shiho-gatame and o-uchi-gari & harai-goshi badges respectively.

NINETEEN REDRUTH MEMBERS took part in the Cornwall Area Inter club championships at the end of March.
The club had a very successful day with 3 golds, 2 silvers and 8 bronzes being won. To put the icing on the cake, the Primary Team also came top in the Primary League and were presented with the overall winner’s team trophy!
CHICHESTER RONIN JUDO CLUB held their Annual Club Championships and Awards evening in March at their Dojo in the Community and Arts Centre in New Park Road, Chichester.
Club Chairman Karen French said she was delighted that so many club members participated, many of them for the fi rst time and some from the Club’s Schools Outreach Project. Karen said, “The Championships are a great chance to experience competition for the fi rst time in a secure environment.”

The members were proud to have their medals presented by the British Judo Council President, Sensei Robin O’Tani.
