over two hundred judoka enjoyed a pre-competition warm-up taken by olympian sarah clark at the mini mons.

The Scottish Mini Mon Championships took place at the Lagoon Centre, Paisley on Saturday 8th May. The event attracted its largest entry to date with over two hundred players and the next generation of JudoScotland volunteers, offi cials and referees.

With entry limited to both boy and girl players of 9th Mon and below, the competition attracted a number of new faces at mat side with a majority of players and parents experiencing a national competition for their fi rst time. Not only was the event a fi rst for parents and players but also for a group of twenty fi ve knowledgeable young volunteers who gave up their time to assist with refereeing and offi ciating and ensured the event ran smoothly over the day.

After the weigh in, the players had the best start to their competition with a warm up taken by Sarah Clark, former European Champion and one of Britain’s best hopes for the London 2012 Olympics. The young players were put through their paces during a range of fun activities and games before Sarah passed on valuable hints and tips on how train and compete.

With all the mini mons now fully prepared, the competition began across the three mats. Throughout the day, a very high standard of Judo was on display and the competition was extremely tight. For the successful athletes, Sarah Clark later assisted with the presentation of medals and took time to sign record books and have photographs taken with young judoka.

Equally impressive was the coaching, refereeing, and offi ciating undertaken by the volunteers, so a big thank from JudoScotland to all those involved who made the Mini Mons such a fun and exciting event.
