3. I now pivot on my left foot and drive my right leg across my opponent into a split Tai-Otoshi position. With my left sleeve grip I then pull outward fi rst and then downwards in order to break Uke’s balance. My right hand, which is my direction hand, starts to push forwards in the direction of the throw.
4. As Uke fl ies through the air, I make sure that I use my hands on the lapel and sleeve to guide them onto their backs. Where I look, is where they land, so the head position determines the throws direction through out the technique. Remember where you look is where they land.
5. One of the most important ingredients of all techniques is that they are performed with momentum and speed. This is what projects Uke over the top with enough force that they have enough to execute a good break fall, so they do not hurt themselves. This is what scores an Ippon.
