INSURANCE

PGL prices include extensive insurance cover (for groups originating from the UK only) organised through travel insurance specialists Fogg Travel Insurance Services Ltd (Fogg). The policy is underwritten by Union Reiseversicherung AG (URV).

Fogg and URV are regulated by the Financial Services Authority (FSA). URV is a member of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. PGL Travel Limited is an Appointed Representative of Fogg enabling us to arrange insurance cover especially tailored for our courses.

Cover can be arranged for non-UK schools and groups at a supplement.

Full details of the policy is available online at www.pgl.co.uk but in any case, will be forwarded with your Booking Confirmation. The following is a synopsis of the main terms and conditions:

Organiser’s Liability Indemnity for the Party Leader up to £5,000,000 in respect of liability at law for death, injury or damage to property.

Emergency Medical and Associated Expenses Up to £5 million per person at centres abroad to cover medical treatment in France. Up to £10,000 per person at centres in the UK for additional accommodation, travel and/or repatriation costs home. Includes 24 hour emergency assistance service. Cover includes agreed expenses (required on medical grounds) incurred by an adult in charge or for up to two parents or relatives travelling to the centre due to the accident or illness of a juvenile member of the party, and expenses in transporting home sick or injured persons for any illness or accident sustained on the course.

Key Insurance Points

We would like to bring some of the important features of the insurance cover to your attention:-

Policy Document: This gives you full details of what is covered and the conditions of cover. It is posted on our website and a hard copy will be sent to the Party Leader. Cooling Off Period: Your policy contains a 14 day cooling off period, during which you can cancel the policy if you have a justifiable reason for being dissatisfied with the cover it provides.

Medical expenses: Your policy does not provide private health treatment unless specifically approved by the emergency assistance service. You should carry a reciprocal health card - EHIC or equivalent and use this at state facilities when travelling within the European Union.

Pre-Existing Health Conditions: If you, or any other person on whom the travel plans depend, have ever had treatment for any heart or circulatory condition, a stroke or high blood pressure, any breathing condition (including asthma), any type of cancer, any type of diabetes, any existing injury or other serious or re-occurring medical condition, any condition requiring long term prescribed medication or if you are receiving or awaiting investigation for any medical condition you must contact the Referral Helpline as per the policy terms to see if additional cover is available. Insurers reserve the right to impose terms. You will receive confirmation in writing of their decision.

Please note: You need only phone the Referral Helpline in respect to your health condition if you are 18 and over travelling anywhere, or you are under 18 and in full time education travelling outside Europe.

Conditions, Exclusions and Terms: Conditions and exclusions will apply to individual sections of your policy while general exclusions, conditions and terms will apply to the whole policy.

Personal Accident Cover is included for adults and juveniles up to a maximum of £25,000. Some benefits under this section are reduced for under 16’s. Please refer to the policy wording and Personal Accident section for full details of the benefit payable.

Cancellation Each participant is covered for loss of deposit or unused travel and accommodation cancellation costs as a result of withdrawal for medical reasons or redundancy to a maximum of the course cost. As with most insurances, an insured is only covered for an event which occurs after the cover has been purchased. Please therefore carefully read the paragraph headed ‘Pre-Existing Health Conditions’ below (there are exceptions to certain age groups).

Baggage To a maximum of £1,500 for children and adults. Single article, pair or set limit £250. Total valuables limit £250. Includes up to a maximum of £1,000 for school property.

Personal Money To a maximum of £200 for children under 18 years and £500 for adults (increased to £1,000 for the Party Leader).

Personal Liability To a maximum of £1,000,000 for liability for death, injury or damage to property.

Excesses Please note that there is an excess of £50 (£35 UK Trips), (£100 for liability and £250 for legal advice and expenses clauses).

Property Claims: These claims are paid based on the value of the goods at the time you lose them and not on a “new for old” or replacement cost basis.

Policy Limits: Most sections of the policy have limits on the amount the insurer will pay under that section. Some sections also include other specific limits, for example for any one item or for valuables in total. You are advised to check your policy if you intend taking expensive items with you - which we advise against.

Policy Excesses: Under some sections of the policy claims will be subject to an excess. This means that you will be responsible for paying the first part of the claim. The amount you have to pay is called the excess.

Reasonable Care: You need to take as much reasonable care to protect yourself and your property as if you were uninsured otherwise your claim may be refused.

Complaints: The insurance policy includes a Complaints Procedure which tells you what steps you can take if you wish to make a complaint.

Dangerous Sports or Pastimes: If you are going to take part in dangerous sports or pastimes where there is a risk of injury, check that your policy covers you. All activities officially organised and implemented by PGL are covered.

Law: The Insurance Policy will be subject to the Law of England and Wales unless otherwise agreed.

PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ YOUR INSURANCE POLICY CAREFULLY FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THE TERMS & CONDITIONS OF THE POLICY MAY RESULT IN COVER BEING RESTRICTED.
