PROFILE - Ashley Hodges
Course Content*:
Units of Study:
For the HNC you will study the following main units:
• Design principles and application • Science and materials • Analytical methods • Group project • Health and safety • Technology A and B • Site surveying processes.
This course is intended for students who already hold an HNC in Construction and wish to attain a Higher National Diploma (HND).
For the HND, you will study the following additional units:
• Construction economics • Individual student project • Tendering and estimating • Measurement A and B • Project management.
*All HNC/D units currently offered are under review and are subject to change.
Progression Opportunities:
After completing the course, students could go on to a part-time Honours degree in a built environment discipline or study for professional qualifications.
Ashley took a year out to travel after completing his A levels at George Ward School, Melksham. He secured a job with a local groundworks company as a Trainee Construction Manager and his employer suggested part time study to gain industry qualifications. Ashley enrolled at Swindon College on the ONC Construction course, which went so well he then enrolled on the HNC. He has so far completed three years of study at college and loves it. Ashley plans to go on to complete the HND top-up and then explore further HE options.
