INTERVIEW WITH MARTIN GOODMAN
WITH CFE
Ralf Bieler, President & CEO of Cash Flow Exclusive, LLC talked with Mr. Goodman about his company and how this fairly new service works. Find out what he had to say.
CFE: Marty, thanks so much for making yourself available today. Perhaps we could begin with your telling us a little bit about your background and how you got into this business with LoansMLS.
Martin Goodman: My primary
background was buying and selling foreclosure properties. I have an MBA
from University of San Diego. I was interested in real estate and started attending real estate auctions. For the next six years, from 1997 on, I purchased over 800 properties and subsequently headed into the private money lending business. Being on this side of the business, I interacted with brokers frequently and was surprised about how primitive the networking was. It seems as though everyone had a “little black book” of sorts or a handful of people that they would call, but there was no real central network. The straw that broke the camel’s back was when I purchased a pool of notes from a large bank and saw that they too were using primitive networks. I was amazed at the lack of a real market and true pricing that was out there.
One weekend I holed myself up in my office and mapped out hundreds of screens and ideas for creating LoanMLS and a week later began the development process. I had a background in software systems design and development, so the combination of software development background and deep real estate/lending knowledge enabled me to create a meaningful platform for the industry.
CFE: What exactly is LoanMLS? Why did you start it, i.e., what “problem” are you solving, who are you trying to reach, and what are its goals and philosophy?
