Synchro Juniors Rise in National Rankings
T
he top junior synchro squad of Amy Ableidinger, Ria Dela Rosa, Emily Duncan, Jasmine Garg, Courtney Hall, Sarah House, Kathleen Lance, Hannah Morton, Madeleine Terry and Katy Wiita attended the U.S. junior championship in Austin, Texas, in March. The squad earned fourth place in the
combo routine event and 10th place in the team event. This was the highest placement for this squad at this elite junior level event, with them rising from 16th in the team event last year and making podium on their first combo routine. The program has developed several
up-and-coming athletes and has more individuals qualifying for national team trials than ever before. Long-time junior team member Katy Wiita qualified for the final phase of the junior national team trials by her placement at the U.S. junior championship. The junior national team is the top 12 swimmers in the nation between the ages of 15-18, who partici- pate in the world junior championship in Indianapolis in August. Katy’s younger sister, Elli, also quali- fied for the final phase of trials for the 13-15 age group national team, and Renee Zhang is trying for the 11-12 age group national team, both of which compete for the United States in the Pan American age group games in Peru in September. Beginning synchro
The beginning synchro class that is now held in conjunction with the swim- ming lesson program is off to a good start, bringing several new swimmers into the program since January. Class participants took part in the annual junior synchro exhibition May 21. Anyone interested in this class should contact the synchro department at ext. 507. For more information on MAC
