Find Action on MAC’s Racquetball Courts
M
AC’s 2010 singles racquetball tour- nament was March 16-18. Forty players participated within five skill cate- gories during the three-day event, which culminated in finals matches on Thursday evening, followed by a banquet and an awards presentation.

A highlight of the evening was an exhi- bition match between Dylan Reid, one of the nation’s top junior racquetball players, and Charlie Pratt, a MAC member coach who plays on the racquetball pro circuit. After losing the first game, Pratt was able to rally and win with an incredible display of shot selection and agility.
During the matches, spectators were treated to a buffet generously provided by Noho’s Hawaiian Café. There were also prizes provided by Ektelon, Willamette Valley Vineyards, Hood River Distillery, MAC Salon, MAC Sports Pub, David Szafranski, Sharon Foley, Scott Jackson, Doug Rowland and MacTarnahan’s Brewing. Thanks to all.

The tournament and banquet wouldn’t be successful without the help of volun- teers; thanks go to Locke and John Gray for their hard work. Read more about these two men and their contributions to racquetball on page 13.

Spring intramurals best ever
Racquetball Commissioner Locke has done an exceptional job with the racquet- ball program. Despite injuries and opt outs and opt ins, hunting down current e-mails and contact information, the teams have enjoyed great organization, exciting matches and great challenges. The beer has been pretty good too.
Each season – fall, winter and spring – new teams form for a nine-week session. The spring season was remarkable because it had the largest sign-up, and a brand new women’s bracket was formed. Member Coach Jan Green has been offering clinics for women, and racquetball Pro Hank Marcus provided many pointers. Because of these efforts, many women have begun to enjoy this active sport, and even formed a spring team of their own. All women are invited to come down to the racquetball courts and learn a new sport.
Fall league
Although summer is near, it’s not too early to be thinking about the fall league. Remember, anyone who played in the spring has to opt out if they are not playing in the fall. Watch for sign ups at the end of summer. Players should be sure to keep their contact information up-to-date so they won’t be missed in the draw.
