Sunset • Madeleine Fey

Fey has devoted time working with her family to organize and collect

food for Mary’s Pantry and the St. Vincent de Paul food drive. She referees for CYO basketball, and plays for ABC Apollos volleyball club. Fey plays both varsity volleyball and varsity basketball. She received the most outstanding freshman award in track, and achieved fi rst place in metro district, and took eighth in state for javelin. She also received seventh place for the 800-meter run and sixth place for the 1,500-meter run during metro districts.

“Being involved in sports, as well as being a student, means being able to utilize my time and know my priorities,” Fey says. “It’s not easy, and there’s a lot of work involved, but for me it’s all worth it because I enjoy participating in sports and meeting new people.”

Tigard • Maddie Black

Black is an active member of Stop Tigard Underage Drinking

(STUD), is a member of Oregon Elite Basketball Club AAU team, and is a Tigard youth basketball camp counselor. As a freshman, Black was second team all-league Pacifi c

Conference and varsity basketball starter. She also was the eighth top scorer in Pacifi c Conference. As a sophomore, she was fi rst team all-league and the fourth top scorer in Pacifi c Conference, and was named the varsity volleyball team’s most improved player. Black says her favorite school subject is art. “I enjoy learning from masters in design, photography and architecture, and creating things that express my own voice,” she says. She has provided freelance design work for a few local companies, and says, “I love being able to help out others by contributing my talents and passions.”

Tualatin • Nathan Suyematsu

Suyematsu raised $400 in sponsorships for baseball in 2009, and another $1,200 in 2010. He has passed the exams to umpire youth baseball, Little League softball, and youth football, and has devoted time to supervising and coaching at a youth pitching clinic.

As a freshman, Suyematsu was the starting guard on the freshman basketball team during the school’s fi rst 20-win season. As a sopho- more, he was named the 2009 honorable mention kicker in the Pacifi c League. With one second remaining, he kicked a game-winning fi eld goal in a varsity football game.

Suyematsu aspires to have a career in the sports industry, perhaps as a sports physical therapist. He says his favorite subject in school is health. “When I was a kid I got hurt a lot, and now I understand what the doctors were telling me,” he explains.

Westview • Dominique Keel

Keel has served as a hostess for breast cancer awareness at

Providence Hospital. She also has been a CYO track offi cial, and is involved with the usher board at her church and in student leadership. During her freshman year, Keel was named outstanding sprinter

and MVP. She received an all-state track honorable mention from Oregon Track and Cross Country Coaches Association, and set school records in the 100 meter and 200 meter. As a sophomore, Keel received her varsity basketball letter and was named defensive player of the year.

“Being a hard-working student and being involved in sports teaches me life skills that I can use for college and years after,” Keel says.

Wilson • Brian Wojahn

Wojahn dedicates most of his time to sports, weightlifting and

schoolwork, but also maintains a part-time job. Wojahn has played nearly every position on the JV football team. He was awarded best defensive player on the freshman basketball team; most outstanding offensive back for the freshman football team; and defensive player of the year for JV football. “The hard work I’ve put into sports on and off the fi eld has paid itself off on two occasions,” Wojahn says. “It has earned me the respect of enough peers and teachers for me to receive this scholarship, and to be announced most outstanding student during middle school.” WM
