Find Relief from Lower Back Pain

T

he third installment of Rebound Orthopedics’ lecture series, The Role of Exercise for Low Back Pain: The Mystery, Myths and Management, is Thursday, June 17 at 6 p.m. Members who are experiencing lower back pain and want to learn how to address it are invited to spend an evening with the pros from Rebound and find out how to manage their back pain effectively.

Rebound are the official team physi- cians for the Trail Blazers, Winterhawks and Portland State Athletics, and have been prominent in the Portland and Vancouver area for the past 40 years. Dr. Jerod Cottrill discusses the impor- tance of establishing an early and accurate diagnosis of acute, sub-acute, and chronic low back pain to facilitate appropriate guidance and treatment. Matt Walsh, a physical therapist, then discusses the complimentary role of physical therapy, manual medicine, and exercise. They redefine core stability and its myths, and explain the role of core movement in the rehabilitation process.

About the speakers

Cottrill is board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation, with fellow- ship training in interventional spine and sports medicine. He is a partner with Rebound Orthopedics and Sports Medicine; a physician for the U..S ski team; and provides spine and non-opera- tive musculoskeletal care for Portland State University and the Portland Trailblazers. Walsh is a physical therapist with 22 years of experience in sports and orthopedic rehabilitation. He lectures nationally and internationally on topics of biomechanics, clinical reasoning and reha- bilitation. Walsh is currently completing his doctoral thesis in physical therapy and has held positions with the PGA tour, the Canadian cross-country ski team, and the Nike Oregon project.

I’ve been lucky to drive some really good cars in my life. Today’s Audis have all the ingredients I like – quattro all-wheel drive, great engineering and design. Plus, the young man at Sunset who sold my wife

her A4 wagon and months later sold me an A6 sedan was knowledgable but also honest about what he knew and didn’t know. I appreciated that and I’ll go back to him again for my next Audi.
