Review Rules with Juniors in Time for Summer Fun

S

chool’s out soon, and that means more junior members are in the clubhouse. MAC provides a family-friendly environment where children are welcome. Parents are encouraged to review the Club Rules with their children and make sure they understand them. Parents should set additional expecta- tions based on each child’s maturity level and the parents’ comfort level. For example, children should be clear about charging limits or other restrictions on club use set by their parents. It is up to the family, not the club, to enforce such limits. Junior members age seven and older are

allowed unaccompanied in the club during junior hours, which in the summer are 5:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Certain areas are always off-limits to unaccompanied juniors, such as the Sports Pub, Men’s Bar, Reading Lounge, Library, sauna and senior locker rooms. Other areas are open to juniors at times described in the Club Rules.

If not in a supervised activity such as child

care, summer camp or class, children younger than age seven must be with a parent, nanny or other adult member at all times while in the club. Siblings must be 18 or older to supervise a younger child. Children younger than seven may not be left in the Junior Lounge or other unsupervised area of the club while parents work out, dine or leave the premises. If children are behaving in a way contrary to club expectations, parents must take what- ever steps necessary to rectify the situation. For example, in the restaurants, children should remain seated and use “inside voices” that do not disturb nearby diners. If children are acting in an unruly manner anywhere in the club, parents should correct the behavior immediately and take them to an area where they do not disrupt others. Juniors are not allowed to sign in guests. Senior members cannot sign in a junior guest

and leave the guest with a junior member. If a junior member wants to bring in a non- member friend, the guest must be signed in by an intermediate or senior member who agrees to accompany the guest at all times in the clubhouse. Parents can set a good example for their

children by learning and following the Club Rules, and by showing respectful behavior towards other club members and staff. The Junior Handbook and complete Club Rules are available on theMAC.com and at the Concierge Desk.
