Mann & Overton General Manager retires



I



t will come as a shock to some, but Peter Rigden, well known General Manager for Mann and Overton in London has hung up his suit and retired. Peter has been with Mann and Overton for over 23 years and has been the General Manager for the last 19.

Peter decided that he wants to retire to his house in France and drink some good wine and enjoy life at a slightly slower pace, although he admits it might be hard to let go entirely. “It really was a seven day a week job and I just felt that now was the right time to grab the opportunity to enjoy my retirement,” said Peter. “I’ve left a lot of great friends and memories behind, but this is also an exciting new chapter in my life and I want to look forward not back. I also don’t want any terrible jokes about retiring while I still can enjoy it! I am not that old.”

Peter joined Mann and Overton from the RAF

in 1987 as Parts Manager in Carnworth Road and then became Aftersales Director after transferring the parts business to Unipart in 1988. He oversaw a great many changes to Mann and Overton and is well known within the trade and held in great esteem by many. Peter’s last great project was managing the move from Holloway road to Brewery road. This was something he and his team achieved in one weekend thanks to Peter’s meticulous planning.

“Peter will be greatly missed but in truth we are all envious of him as he relaxes in France with great weather,” commented Peter Shillcock Managing Director of LTI. “He was here when I joined the company and it will be very strange without him, it really is the end of an era.”

Peter began at Mann and Overton in the parts department and worked his way up to the top



dealership for many years. He has seen many changes to the company as a whole, but has embraced change as it came along to make sure Mann and Overton London was always the best.

“I introduced the use of the web very early on, computers, email, SMS; I have always tried to use the most modern methods to promote Mann and Overton London to be as successful as it could be. No doubt I will be using some of those methods to keep in touch with my friends back here and keep up to date with what happens in the trade. I would like to say thank you to everyone who has helped me in my time at Mann and Overton and I promise to keep in touch.”

Peter has been replaced by Mark Brown who joined the company on the 17th May. Mark comes from the automotive industry and is keen to continue Peter’s good work whilst making improvements where he can.

CCTV camera earning nearly £1m
