About Windscreen Repairs
Over the past few years windscreens have become larger and much more technical with built in aerials, heating elements and
now bonded and you can see that they are no longer a cheap item. Add in the fact that glass claims have risen since the windscreen became part of the MOT test and you can see why insurance excess rates are rising for replacement windscreens.
Fleet operators who are looking to control costs and minimise insurance claims see in-house windscreen repairs as one area where they can take control. Windscreen repair should be considered as preventative maintenance for windscreens. Often the initial damage is a stone chip or short crack that is repairable. Over 60% of initial damage is repairable, whereas minor damage that is left un-repaired will often result in the damage spreading, meaning increased cost and vehicle downtime.
What the repair will do is as follows. Repairs are a permanent repair, restoring the mechanical strength to the damaged glass and improve the cosmetic aspect of the damage by over 90%. Repairs will normally last for the lifetime of the glass and it is quite normal for a windscreen to be repaired a number of times on high mileage vehicles. To carry out your own repairs costs about £2.00 in materials and takes 30 minutes, a lot cheaper than the alternatives.
For more information on how to carry out a repair you can visit the Esprit web site
www.espritws.com and watch the star break repair video or you can contact Esprit directly (FREEPHONE 0800 432 0982) and ask for a free copy of the Esprit training DVD that shows how to repair both stone chips and cracks in laminated windscreens.
