Master Fiddler Visits the Kelley Library
by Robyn Hatch
The Kelley Library presented Old-Time Rules Will Prevail: The
Fiddle Contest in New Hampshire and New England with Adam
Boyce, which featured Adam Boyce, a 10th-generation Vermonter and fiddler in his own right. Boyce has been involved with nearly every aspect of fiddle contests in New England since 1994, including judge, piano backup, and competitor. He was the 2000 Vermont division champion at the Northeast Fiddlers Contest in Barre, VT, and has placed in nearly every New England state. Boyce is also an Eastern-style square dance caller who fiddles and calls simultaneously, and also plays piano backup for other fiddlers throughout Vermont and New Hampshire. He is also listed as a Juried Artist with the Vermont Arts Council, specializing in Yankee Humor. Boyce currently lives in West Windsor, VT. At the presentation at the Kelley Library, not many were really
aware of the beautiful music that can come out of a fiddle. A real entertainer, Boyce treated the full house of attendees to some real, down-to-earth Vermont humor mixed with his music.

Student Art Show Displays Budding Professional Talent
by Robyn Hatch
This year’s Student Art Show took place at the Kelley Library and
encompassed all of the schools in the district, showcasing some of the most creative, professional-quality artwork in many years, including black- and-white graphic images, bold-colored contemporaries, and classical scenes. Gothic- and Monet- inspired pieces, as well as statues of people, rounded out the artwork on display. There were two
Silver Key award- winning pieces done by Tetyana Rykeva, while Robert Schneider earned the Gold Key award for his beautiful image of “many colors.”
